Hi Folks,
 I sold auto parts my whole career and had a chance to attend the 3-day Wix School of Filtration. While it did not make me an expert, I did learn a few things. The racing oil filters R suffix are intended to allow higher oil flow and less restriction at the expense of higher filtration. Thus, robbing less horsepower.  They should be changed after each racing weekend and are not intended for long term street use. I have always used Wix filters, but after a recent survey I have switched to Baldwin filters. Thier B243 is the equivalent to the Wix 51516. It is not an 'R" version.
