I?ve listed Ambro 001 for sale on Bring-A-Trailer. It?s up with no reserve. I?m going to include a ton of parts with it if the buyer wants them?I?m building a TR3 hot street car but I have tons of stuff I don?t need. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1958-ambro-race-car-001/
I had big plans for Peyotifying this car to make it as fast or faster than Peyote. But it?s just sitting in my shop gathering dust.

Hi,
An acquaintance brought a seized TR6 engine to my local machinist and somehow I got in the loop. I sold the guy a complete lower block assembly that should be rebuildable... blah blah blah. In the loop conversation, the machinist told the customer that the original block was probably okay, but the caps were junk because they were hot enough to turn blue. Customer had the oil gauge line blow off the block and ran the engine dry until it seized. In any case, The lower assembly I sold the guy should be rebuildable as is the original engine would be IF we could source a set of main caps that can be assembled and the block align bored.
My preference is to try to keep the block I sold the guy "complete" as a core for an engine project and I have a couple of cranks that I can sell to the customer.
So, I'm looking for a complete set of 4 TR6 main bearing caps in serviceable condition.
I told client that his best bet is to score a complete engine and strip off what he needs, he didn't seem to want to do that. Go figure. The situation is "self explanatory".
But if you have some TR6 main caps lying around, drop me a line.

IMHO just getting a set of main caps that are close to the engine alignment in the current block is a needle in a haystack scenario. That will mean line boring after machining the caps and then a line hone. I can?t imagine that the price for that would be anywhere as cheap as finding another donor engine.
I recently recycled two TR6 blocks that I got with cars due to the missing bearing caps.

Subject: [Fot] Tires
Message-ID:
While not specifically a triumph question, I hope I get get some info here.
I have a ?73 Lotus Europa John Player Special. The car only weighs about
1500 pounds.
The tires that came on the car are:
175/70-R13 Front
185/70-R13 Rear
Because of the weight, the specified air pressure is only 20 pounds.
The rims are 5.5? wide
It is difficult to find street legal performance tires for 13? wheels.
Some manufacturers sell the 175?s & some sell the 185?s but few sell both,
& those that do, may only sell both using different model tires. I hate to
mix 2 different tire models on the same car.
If I go with a 205/60-R13, I get basically the same diameter/circumference
as both the 175 & 185 tires, & there are a number of track performance
tires, & even the old BF Goodrich Radial T/As available. The 205?s would
look great!
>From some old on line posts, it sounds like the 205/60?s will work fine on
the rear, with some very slight interference on the front at full turn
lock. That would be easy to deal with.
Some charts I have seen say that a 5.5? wide rim will take up to a 205, but
some say only up to 195 widths are acceptable.
Your thoughts?

Mine. Comes with a LOT of parts, not just for the AMBRO. I have one TR3 I?m completeing but other than the parts that go on it I?m going to get rid of as much of my tons of Triumph stuff as the buyer wants. So this is more like bring a box truck. Probably going to go cheap in about 13 hours.

Does anyone have a good photo or diagram of a GT6 MkI front frame crossmember with the bonnet hinge assembly?
A little more context here. Some of you might remember the car in question ? my dad?s red MkI GT6 racer. Effing terrifying car to drive with the swing axles. It was really OK to drive as long as you didn?t need to, you know, brake. Or, god forbid, brake while turning.
Dad pulled it off the track roughly 20 years ago and began rebuilding it on a ?71 GT6 MkIII frame that I had lying around. He only got the car so far before he was no longer able to work on it. And then he had the temerity to go ahead and die and leave me to finish the car. I?ve gotten it back to pretty much ready to drop the spare engine and trans into it and send it off to Tom in Vermont for him and his grandkids to mess with.
As I think about putting the bonnet back on, it occurs to me that dad must have cut off the normal MkIII bonnet hinge boxes that mount on the front frame crossmember, in preparation for adding the MkI bonnet hinge assemblies to the MkIII frame.
Here?s where we are right now?(see below or attached pic).

Me too! While I would love an Ambro, and am looking for another project,
hauling to Virginia is just a bit too much for me.

Subject: [Fot] Spitfire and GT6 Bonnets and Triumph parts and shop tools for
sale
Message-ID:
Morning Members,
Ok I am doing a house "AKA Garage" cleaning of Spitfire and GT6 parts and bonnets and tools etc.
I have:
* 1 round tail GT6 bonnet with louvers, very very good condition
* 1 square tail GT6 bonnet that was made from a Spitfire bonnet and then the GT6 power bulge was welded into it. Stripped and primed and looks to be 99% rust free. No Triumph was ever rust free even from day one so.........
* 1 round tail stock Spitfire bonnet, also very very good condition
* 1 each left and right front wings "fender portion" of a square tail bonnet that for some reason were cut off a square tail bonnet. For potential repair for a damaged bonnet maybe?? Don't know why I have them, LOL!
* 1 GT6 parts car, rusty and missing lost of stuff but the basic car and engine is still there.
* 1 square tail Spitfire parts car, again pretty rusty but lots of stuff to fix up a race car or street car.
* 1 GT6 square tail frame totally stripped frame, frame only.
Other stuff I don't even know I have, but these are the big bulky parts that need a home. All of it is in Nashville, Tennessee at my office. I can meet there on weekdays or weekends you can see it all and look thru the 5-7 pallets of other parts I have too. I have 2 square tail race cars that will be gone thru one more time before I retire myself from racing, so some parts stay with me but EVERYTHING else is for sale. I want to offer this to the membership first as you are the guys that keep the Triumph world alive and deserve first pick!! Can't tell ya how much you all and the site has helped me thru the years.
Also a HUGE AIR CAPACITY 120 gallon, 4 cylinder two stage, Champion air compressor, 220V single phase, a 4 foot bead blast cabinet, a 6 foot long steel workbench made from river barge plate steel. A 220V single phase hot water pressure washer fired by kerosene, a ALC 100-pound capacity pressure pot sand blaster and more all in good operational condition. I have a forklift to load too.

I would like to add another name to our list.
I just got off the phone With Rick Mathis. He has been involved with
building, racing and developing Triumphs for a long time. He was
recommended to me by Mark Craig, so he comes with high recommendation.
If we can get him added, I'd appreciate it, and I'll let Rick introduce
himself.
Thanks

Sean,
Mine fully?crapped out just after I signed up for a 5 yr subscription renewal, and I ended up getting a replacement that is a different design (no race key).
Once I registered?it (?),?lo and behold, it works! The racekey version worked about 3 times in 5 years. That?s about?one more time than my car did? (but improvements are presently manifesting).
Good luck with yours. I?ll see you at Lime Rock!

I am running 205/60R13 BFG T/A tires on stock TR8 alloy wheels on my
TR7 FHC. I believe they are 5.5" width rims. I am having no issues
with this set up. Driven spiritedly and occasionally autocrossed.
While it is not a Europa, I have no rubbing issues on lowered springs
with this extra tire width.
Perhaps someone can verify the rim width on the TR8 factory alloy
wheels? I do think they are 5.5".Tim HutchisenNorway, ME

Subject: [Fot] Tires
While not specifically a triumph question, I hope I get get some info
here. I have a ?73 Lotus Europa John Player Special. The car only
weighs about 1500 pounds.
The tires that came on the car are:
175/70-R13 Front
185/70-R13 Rear
Because of the weight, the specified air pressure is only 20 pounds.
The rims are 5.5? wide
It is difficult to find street legal performance tires for 13?
wheels.
Some manufacturers sell the 175?s & some sell the 185?s but few
sell both, & those that do, may only sell both using different model
tires. I hate to mix 2 different tire models on the same car.
If I go with a 205/60-R13, I get basically the same
diameter/circumference as both the 175 & 185 tires, & there are a
number of track performance tires, & even the old BF Goodrich Radial
T/As available. The 205?s would look great!
From some old on line posts, it sounds like the 205/60?s will work
fine on the rear, with some very slight interference on the front at
full turn lock. That would be easy to deal with.
Some charts I have seen say that a 5.5? wide rim will take up to a
205, but some say only up to 195 widths are acceptable.
Your thoughts?

Yes, it was bought by Jim Whitmer, who was a former owner. In fact he was the owner who sold the car to Doug Karon. So yes, I?m quite pleased.
The car comes with a LOT of ancillary parts, many of them have nothing to do with the Ambro. I?m trying to make my metalworking wing of the shop a bit more orderly and getting rid of 50 years worth of Triumph parts accumulation will go a long way to aid that. I?m restoring a TR3 I bought many years ago, and reserving the parts necessary to complete that project, but otherwise everything that fits on the trailer is headed to Oklahoma.
I hope he does what I planned to do, which was to Peyote-ify the car. I always thought it could be as fast or faster, and pretty at the same time.

Hello all,
I just replaced the seat in my TR4 with a smaller one. As a result, I have a decent Kirkey seat up for sale. It?s an older seat, p/n 36900, and is 18? across on the inside. It has the outer cloth covering with the foam. Please see the pics for condition details. $150 delivered to Lime Rock, or come get it for the same price. I guess I could ship it since I have the box from the new seat, but that would be extra.
Thanks,
Chuck

Folks,
Looking for wheels to use on my Son?s street TR3. We have a set of old revolution 15x7 that are a bit too wide. Also have a couple sets of old steel TR3 wheels. My guess is when we take off the old tires on the steel wheels we are going to find that most of these are bent or damaged.
Before we drop $1,000 on new stuff, asking the group if there are any sitting in a back corner somewhere looking for a use. We can paint so finish isn?t a major concern for us.
Appreciate any leads.

One of the pieces of the puzzle I am working on with the track is a very
cool opportunity to display street cars in the paddock. While Triumph
Central will be in the somewhat less crazy B Paddock, the A Paddock is
where the bulk of the action happens. The track has allocated an
untented area in A Paddock to park very nice examples of street cars
representing the Featured Run Group for the folks walking the paddock to
view. They do want the cars parked there for the lion's share of the
weekend, so if someone is using the Triumph to commute to the track,
they need to show up at a reasonable time and stay for the day and not
use the car as transport during the day. The track is providing a free
weekend pass for the owners these cars, that is a $171 bonus. The car is
most welcome to participate on Sunday in either the Concours or the
Gathering of the Marques.
Anyone interested in this should email me ASAP and I will make sure to
pass your information to the folks at the track who are running this
with a note saying your entry is part of Kastner Cup festivities. The
track has final say on who gets accepted, but I hope I have at least
some sway!
The track is also looking to enhance their entries for the Triumph class
in Concours on Sunday, they are hoping to get a very nice example of
each model for the judged concours. Again, email me with any questions
or thoughts.
It's all coming together, last count we are at 36 entrants, and we know
a few of you still have not entered yet!
Cheers

Welcoming Kevin Vincent to our esteemed group. He has been the owner of the former Glenn Valdez, former Bill Collins, former Ed Barnard spitfire for a couple years now. He has been running with us at CVAR.
I?m embarrassed to admit I had no clue he hadn?t already been anointed.
He reached out recently about Spitefire Transmission questions that instantly exceeded my abilities. I?m confident there are some amount us in possession of the knowledge he desires.
Welcome aboard Kevin and hope to see you at ECR.

Jesse, Scott and Dave had a podium sweep for Triumph on Sunday.
Thanks to Marty Sukey for putting this all together. We hope to make this

Message-ID:
Most of you know that our Midwest extravaganza of Vintage Racing happens at
Road America in Mid July.
Brian Redmond, Weathertech Love it or Hate it...
The Event is spectacular, rich and full of all the hoop-la that is beyond
our small Triumph minds.
This year was no exception and most of the Triumphs that showed up to the
Marque massacre looked good and performed descent but only to about mid
pack.
Frankly, regardless of whatever excuse I'd like to come up with: Elva,
Porsche, Alfa, Datsun, MG And Austin Healey had us beat in both of the
vintage production groups.
Tech was pretty tough.
Lots of scrutinizing, that caused some a second trip to tech or a note in
the log log book about rule infractions.
I wasn't driving but had a blast crewing for all my big American car
teammates, and Dave and Alex Amys in 2 of our best Midwest Triumphs.
It was 4 days of racing Problems and Bliss.
I have 2 Shout outs for our Guys who really brought something Awesome To
the BIG SHOW....
First Goes to my good friend Alex Amys.. A younger, prettier, faster
version of myself who has done everything right in the world of GT6 Racing
since the very beginning of his Triumph Quest.
Alex Brought out his new and improved GT6 for the first time in 2 years...
since being the innocent victim of a bad oil spill; which caused a hard
nasty bang and brush into the wall at the kink
And Now, In its new debut; the car is totally awesome.
Clean, trick, and a masterpiece of smart engineering!
I couldn't be more happy and proud to see him back on track; better, and
rebuilt to such a high standard....
A+ Alex Amys.
Second is (surprise) another killer GT6.
This car made its debut at the RA Kastner Cup in 2023 after a 4 year
scratch build.
Tom Reiss and Mike Gwizdek
2 years later, the car has benefited from practical development and earned
knowledge.
These guys have great mechanical minds and have built a very sophisticated
and well thought car.
Once these fellows are able to accumulate data from their car and its
fantastic designs, their success will soon rapidly follow.
They are from the the Milwaukee Area
Color scheme is nice with Blue white and red #23
A+ Reidek Racing.

Message-ID: <25ab6577-86ee-4f45-92b8-62671081637b@bradakis.com>
Well, currently Spitfires are selling for $80,000 as we all know.
That's for a complete, running, driveable car. Which Killer is not. So
I would be willing to settle for 1/4th the price, $20,000. Oh what the
... for FOT members I'll cut it to $15,000.
I imagine JS Performance in Ohio could source a nice motor and gearbox
for a mere $30,000 or so. So far that would be $45,000 for a running
car. Way below the 80 grand mark! Such a deal!!
Okay, time to be serious. Knock a couple of zeroes off that $80,000 and
you'd be getting closer to what I would actually expect out of the car.
The wheels alone, Keizer 13 x 6 in the front, 13 x 8 in the back, are
probably worth a few bucks. Well, once cleaned up and polished. And
the rear spring, lowering block and welded diff are worth having, at
least to someone.
But the car has been sitting outside under a tarp for close to two
decades. It is dirty, rust starting to form on some surfaces. Not a
pretty sight. Pugs and I put a LOT of effort into building that car, it
deserves better than what I can give it. I am pretty sure I will not
get around to getting it going again in my remaining years.
Would be nice to see it come back to life. Who knows, maybe someday
some young kid will have a Buddy Palermo moment in the parking lot of
the VTR host hotel at a future convention, roaring around and scaring
the paying customers in a resurrected Killer.
A few pics of Killer as it sits at the moment. That rotting hulk of a
TR7 is another sad story. Sigh.
I will consider all offers. Offered as is, where is. My trick,
tilting, made for Spitfires trailer was stolen a few years back, so I
can't help with transport. The carcass sits in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Thank you for allowing me to join the group. A little history, back in the early 2000s we attended Watkins Glen for the vintage festival for many years as spectators. In 2004 I said I think we can do this racing thing ?As I was a Triumph enthusiast and was a Toronto Triumph club coordinator what better vehicle to race than a TR6. At this point I had owned about 20 TR6s which I found in Ontario and purchased so I could move them to new owners to restore. A little research directed me to a built racecar in Alabama. The gentleman racer had passed, and his wife sold me the car. This car was a blue color #18 with triple Weber?s and much work done to make it VARAC ready. After many years of racing this car, it was sold and moved to California. I would like to know if it is still around. I then began racing a BMW E30 M3 great car but expensive to repair. I did well but my passion has always been ?TRIUMPH?. Covid happened and all things racing slowed down, the BMW went into storage and the wheels started turning if you know what I mean. Hmmm, lets look for a Triumph again!! I was at the Toronto Triumph club British car day when I was approached by a gentleman who stated he did have a TR4a that he raced from new 1966 until 1976 and then stored the car in his family barn for 50 years. He lived and worked on the west and east coast and the car was set to D production specks. This person worked with Kas and Tullius to set up his car attending both of their facilities. This D production racer and his wife have won many many awards and trophies. I have some of them and many slides to prove this. Although Kas did not sign the car his work is all over it. I have been out to the VARAC vintage festival and now out to a second venue in Shannonville Ontario. Shaking the dust bunnies from me and the car, the adrenaline rush is as strong as ever and I can see a wonderful future for us. ? I would like to send a heartfelt thanks to Mike Deweerd for helping get this racing thing going again. See you racers at the Green Flag and looking forward to the Kastner Cup in 2026.

Terry, tell us the story on your Spit! Were you surprised at the BaT
auction final price? Why do you think it went so high?
I am sure all of us with Spitfires in the shed sent that auction to our
friends/family/significant others and said something to the effect of "I
told you I was sitting on a gold mine."
:-)
Shelby just smiled at me when I showed her your auction.

Kastner Cup Racers,
If you have not registered yet and you are planning on running with us
at the Kastner Cup and want to save 100 bucks, you will want to get your
entry in now. After August 1, the entry fee goes from $850 to $950.
Our entries are sitting pretty at 38, and I know at least a couple of
guys are intending on coming but have not pulled the trigger on
registration yet. It's time!
Plans are looking good, stay tuned for more details!

The info connecting rod and connecting rod fastener info below is possibly VERY useful for a lot of you so I thought I would post it for everyone. I have removed the contact at Carillo to keep them form being pestered with questions but this is direct from the head man at Carillo that is involved with rods and rod bolts daily.

Subject: RE: Carrillo Rod Bolts
HI Sean,
Happy to help.
This may be more information than you need to make a decision.
The stretch range can be achieved between 70-100ftlbs.
However, this does not mean that you need to go to 100ftlbs to achieve the proper stretch.
Once you achieve the proper stretch you don?t keep torquing the bolts.
It is possible to have the bolts take less torque to achieve the desired stretch; this is one of the reasons there is a torque range rather than a suggested torque.
This is even more true when the rods and bolts are used and have been torqued multiple times already, as the bolt under head to spot-face and the threads of the two components can polish each other differently. Since torque is only measuring the force to overcome the friction between the two parts, the more polished they are the less friction thus the less torque.
We did a study here a few years back and saw that if we took the same rod and bolt and tightened it to the same torque number the bolt kept stretching until it was no longer polishing itself. Same for stretching the bolt repeatedly we saw the required torque dropping. In both of these tests the torque and stretch seemed to stabilize after approx. 10 torque cycles, this could vary overall as well as between different bolts which is why we prefer recommended stretch since bolt stretch actually determines how much clamp load the bolts are providing.
With that said, when you loosened them, do they return to zero on the stretch gauge?
If they do return to zero, then you can still use the bolts. If not I would replace them.
I know some customers will just replace the bolts for peace of mind, but I do not think this is necessary if the bolts do not continue to get grow in length once released.
Fyi, I would put a max of 0.001 permanent stretch from original length.
Hope this information helps you.
If you have any questions or need further assistance. Please feel free to reach out to be by email or phone.
Kind regards

Mark,
Ouch on the price
We have two bolts that we did not go past the recommended max torque of 100 ft/lbs but the elongation was .002" over max. or total of .0095". We snuck up on the torque checking the stretch each setting until we saw the overstretch. We loosened and retorqued at the min of 70 ft/lbs and they stretched to .007" must faster/lower toruqe than previously and faster than any of the other bolts.
Can you field our specific situation with your contact or we can call Carrillo and get you out of the middle on this part of the discussion.
What is the lead time on 2 or 4 bolts?

Sean Alexander

His exact words:
These bolts can be torqued 18-20 times without issue.
They are 54.53 per bolt if you want new ones though.
