Holy crap, that just sucks. To anyone who has had the pleasure of 
running at PittRace, this is devastating news.

According to the many articles a google search returned, it seems the 
owners were offered huge money from developers looking to build yet 
another data center.

 2nd hand, but I read it's one of the flatter pieces of land in the immediate area and it's right next to a power related facility that's very valuable to things like data or distribution centers and they were offered a king's ransom for it.

And I was thrashing away in midfield of the SRF3 race (around 20th of 44?) when I had a really nice crash.  Live on the SCCA.com national feed.  I was running 4th in a 5-car pack on the last lap and the front two cars spun at 1, the third car, just in front of me, made a really aggressive avoidance maneuver and spun in front of me, taking me out.

As always, totally not my fault.  :-)

It was an appropriate end to a pretty shite week.  Turned a 2:30 and change first session Monday and then the lambda AF readings went nuts.  We farted around changing electrical stuff on the AF end - new O2 sensor, new wideband controller, finally a new ECU, sucking up the rest of the practice days.  Best I could do in Q1 was a 2:32.1.  Then, in Q2, the bracket holding the shifter cable at the trans bent and let the cable slide, so no gears.

Started 35th, I think, was up to around 20th, got crashed.

I feel like next year is my year for sure.

It's possible.  When I was dirty up to the elbows digging around in the engine bay fixing the shifter, I did have some flashbacks.  I'll be back in one of the Triumphs again sometime.  I don't have the free time to do it properly right now.

Yes, they always have lots to say. ? Helps when you bring the car with the nicest design on the grid.
As I've said before, the number of people who stop by the paddock spot to share stories of their dad's or brother's GT6 is amazing.
I feel like I know the history of every GT6 imported to the US.

When I need the car to turn, it pushes.  (turn 5 and 6)
When I need the car to go, the rear steps out.
That's the problem with an extremely light rear end and 10,000 HP.
Came in 9# over weight.  That's a little too close.

I finally got around to burning all of my sessions from Lime Rock HF43; forgive the order not, well, being in order!

It was a great moment in Triumph GT6 History.
The sound of Anthony's car echoing off the Kettle Moraine was beautiful
Music.
Update your Record Books... He turned a 2:31.6.
besting his last year's time by almost 5 seconds.
That's an average Lap Speed of 96 MPH
Um.... Holy Hot Laps.
The Lap Time, The Top Five, And the car drenched in its own melted burned
rubber.... Totally Awesome!

Great job Anthony, congrats!  I was watching the live stream on YouTube and was really impressed with how well you dealt with the issues.

In other Runoffs news, Steve Sargis won HP in his Spitfire!

 In a different world this past weekend, Tim Lanocha's TWS Motors (formerly named The Wedge Shop) Triumph TR8 was entered in a Racemotive 1/3 mile Roll-Racing event at Pocono Raceway on Sunday.  Clocked at 171.2 mph.  Good enough for 4th in class.

Don't judge me,  I just happened to be there for an event on one of the infield road courses :-)

Looking at the previous corners - car wasn?t too happy !
Lucky for me , Was able to get a freebie tire in true FOT tradition from behind the sasco trailer :-) and luckier still is you dint drill that door ?!

Hi Tony,
The cut tire explains it all! ?I was thinking to myself for a few corners that ?this guy has some huge inputs!? ??. ?The unexpected makes it fun! ?That?s even better about finding a freebie to replace it!
I?ve got some setup work to do; I might have hit the same curb during race 3. ?A poor (non) passing decision on my part put me way to far right on the downhill, and I nailed the beginning part of the berm. ?(And then waived the Henry and Bob train by!).?Turns out after safety checking the car when back home the next weekend, that it had stripped out a sway bar arm (and cracked it) introducing a huge amount of preload up front, and a bar that was more sway than bar. ? So, I had?run the rest of that race and the Kastner Cup itself that way, AND PROCEEDED TO GO FASTER!! ? I seem to do better when things go wrong somehow? ?

As I've said before, the number of people who stop by the paddock spot to share stories of their dad's or brother's GT6 is amazing.
I feel like I know the history of every GT6 imported to the US.

When I need the car to turn, it pushes.  (turn 5 and 6)
When I need the car to go, the rear steps out.
That's the problem with an extremely light rear end and 10,000 HP.
Came in 9# over weight.  That's a little too close.

After watching the SCCA youtube video, I think the announcers made a big deal out of not much.
When one is driving constantly on the edge, it takes VERY little from the track or the driver to make a car go somewhere you don't want.
What matters is how many remaining options do you have?
So far, I've found the car to have an amazingly consistent yaw limit. So long as one keeps it between ? and full throttle, it stays underneath you.


YES, congrats to Sargis for yet another championship.  Very impressive.  He has such good control of his whole program that he makes it look easy.
I laughed when during a pre-race interview Steve said that he found more HP.  How he can keep "finding" more HP year after year for 30 years is beyond me.

In other Runoffs news, Steve Sargis won HP in his Spitfire!

 In a different world this past weekend, Tim Lanocha's TWS Motors (formerly named The Wedge Shop) Triumph TR8 was entered in a Racemotive 1/3 mile Roll-Racing event at Pocono Raceway on Sunday.  Clocked at 171.2 mph.  Good enough for 4th in class.

Don't judge me,  I just happened to be there for an event on one of the infield road courses :-)

After a successful inaugural TR/MG Challenge at Pittrace this year PVGP is hoping there would be enough interest that they could continue the challenge race at Schenley Park in 2026 since Pittrace no longer exists. I told Dan I would reach out to the group and see if there was any interest.  So, a bit of a survey I guess, who might show up for a TR/MG Challenge at Schenley Park?

As a side note I suggested that having a race at Mid-Ohio that weekend to fill the Pittrace void might be of interest down the road. A non-SVRA sanctioned race!

Sorry to hear about the crash - sounds like had it not been for equipment issues, you would have had a good run - 30 to 20 is a nice move considering what you had to battle.  Especially in a Spec series!  At least you did not have Dave Ogburn to contend with this year, or likely next year in SFR3.  He has spent 2025 working to qualify for the 2026 24 Hours of Nurburgring in a BMW M4 GT.  Unlike Verstappen, he has not been able to convince FIA and Nurburgring to accelerate his DPN-A/B license.

It was an appropriate end to a pretty shite week.  Turned a 2:30 and change first session Monday and then the lambda AF readings went nuts.  We farted around changing electrical stuff on the AF end - new O2 sensor, new wideband controller, finally a new ECU, sucking up the rest of the practice days.  Best I could do in Q1 was a 2:32.1.  Then, in Q2, the bracket holding the shifter cable at the trans bent and let the cable slide, so no gears.  
 
Started 35th, I think, was up to around 20th, got crashed.  
 
I feel like next year is my year for sure.

And I was thrashing away in midfield of the SRF3 race (around 20th of 44?) when I had a really nice crash.? Live on the SCCA.com national feed.? I was running 4th in a 5-car pack on the last lap and the front two cars spun at 1, the third car, just in front of me, made a really aggressive avoidance maneuver and spun in front of me, taking me out.?As always, totally not my fault.? :-)?It was an appropriate end to a pretty shite week.? Turned a 2:30 and change first session Monday and then the lambda AF readings went nuts.? We farted around changing electrical stuff on the AF end - new O2 sensor, new wideband controller, finally a new ECU, sucking up the rest of the practice days.? Best I could do in Q1 was a 2:32.1.? Hi Chris :-)
The two spitfires up at the front all came out of the same race shop ( vintage racing services). Very well prepared cars.
Lime rock ( imho) takes a very specific chassis set up. Cross weight ( more weight on the RF) and lots of rebound at the rear shock. 3 corners needed to be taken flat( no lifting) to get a good lap time. I failed at that part ! Close ? but not good enough.

I talked to the seller about the car and he sent me a few more pictures. I have a soft spot in my brain for 250?s. He was very open and honest about it. It was built as an autocross car starting with a rust belt TR250. The car was deemed too far gone to restore at that point in time decades ago. Frame was repaired with angle iron and patches. Most body panels have bondo style rust repairs most evident in the ?one piece? rear fenders and apron. His assessment is that it isn?t worth trying to bro g it back as it would need a new frame and most panels. Although a dedicated autocross car is a race car it is not a road racing car. If someone wanted to bring it back accepting the structural condition it?s a bargain starting point. 

You only get one chance at life, make it a TRIUMPH.

Interesting car.? It clearly needs everything, and it isn't obvious what all
is still there, but the price isn't bad.

I was part of the first group to talk Charles into starting the TRF Racing
program, so I had those stickers as well.? Definitely a nostalgic feeling
to see them here.

 Kastner, the CALSALES SERVICE MANAGER,  commemorated his CHAMPIONSHIP win in 1959 by self producing a poster. The remaining poster traveled with him throughout his life. It became tattered and brittle. We commissioned David Townsend to restore the badly damaged poster. It is a generous 17? x22? in size and shipped in mailing tube.

Initial offering is to the FOT.  The net proceeds will be used to fund THE KASTNER CUP SERIES.  The poster can be found on the ARE LLC website.  Gasketinnovations.com.

This poster represents a pivotal piece of history, as it led to Kas Kastner becoming FACTORY COMPETITION MANAGER.  Success after success ensued. Thank you for supporting The Kas Kastner Legacy.

 Hi,
All the Datsun racers tell me that parts cars are so cheap, they just buy and strip what they need and scrap the metal. My suggestion would be to track down some Datsun guys and offer appropriate choice of beverage or monetary amount.
Pretty sure you have a TR6, so the 9" 240/260/280 Z drums are the perfect choice. If you can't get Alfin, there are new steel drums available like everywhere.

This one is someone I met at a Brit car show this summer. I have not done any biz with him but his samples looked well done. James Erwin -?Surface Refinishing Technology - located Elburn IL - 630 207 6076? His website doesn't list drum relining but he does do it.

I know a number of you were talking about coming to VIR next year.  VDCA released the 2026 schedule and the Wild Hare weekend is scheduled for March 27-29.  Just thought I?d give you a heads up so you all can plan for next year.

If you haven?t been there before, It is a fantastic track and I?m sure you will all enjoy it.  I live about 4 hours southwest just outside of Greenville, SC.  If that?s convenient to you, I?ve got plenty of room to park your rig if you need a place to stay on the way.  Of course, you all are welcome even if it?s not convenient!

Hope to see you next year at VIR.

Good morning, I have an issue with transmission oil leaking out of the three
o ring seals where the transmission selector shafts enter the top cover.
This only happens during high rpms. This is an overdrive unit.

Has anyone added additional venting to the top cover. I understand there is
possibly a small vent hole in the front however I have not looked at this
yet. I am also going to build a TR4 motor this winter and am looking for
direction and contacts for pistons, liners, and rods. I am good at
mechanical logistics, and I have built two strokes, I have also been around
engine builders and understand, however this will be my first real build.
Yes, I understand that certain things will be left to the pro's

Help appreciated

The oem vent is a small hole in the tail shaft under the shift tower.
If your sure that the o rings are leaking - go ahead and pop of the gearbox top and ?
*Add a dash4 fitting for a vent
*drill and lock wire the set screws that loc the selector forks to the rails
* tach weld the centre blade at the end of the rail .
* change the o rings

British frame and engine for the majority of the engine parts.

All great advice. Another easy approach is to add  vent to the cover on the boss where the TR2 dipstick once lives. These are sold online:

A guy that goes to the same gym as me was an SCCA member from many years ago. ?He had a copy of the Straightpipe newsletter from the Washington DC region from May 1962 that he shared with me. ?It had results from a race at the Marlboro (I think in Maryland) track. ?Roger Penske was on the cover in his Cooper Monaco. ?There were a number of TR3s and 4s in the EP race - I attached a picture of those results. ?Bob Tullius was second in EP and the top finishing Triumph in a TR3. ?
I also found a classified ad for a TR roll bar for $25 - what a bargain.JoeB

Yes, do as Tony suggests.  
The set screws have been known to back out and drop into the works or, the square end breaks off and falls into the works.  This can immediately stop rotation of the works and the rear tires.
The end of the center shift rail can pull out of the rail.  I have seen this.  A tach weld will secure the end in place.
One more tip to help stop leaks.  Be aware that just about every threaded bolt hole in the case goes through the case.  Sealant should be used, or leaks will be plenty.  The 4 input shaft bearing carrier bolt holes also go through the case.  They will leak without sealant.  
The engine block is like this too.  A number of bolt holes go through the block.  They all need sealant.  Like the two coil bracket holes and the generator/alternator bracket.  I prefer to not mount the coil on the engine, so I use crush washers under the bolts there.

 Great idea, Bob!
I used that boss to install a 3/8 NPT to AN6 adapter and run 3/8" hose to a remote catch tank. Pretty mush zero tranny leakage with that setup.
But if you crank your engine to big RPM's, the transmission gets H-O-T and the pressure has to go somewhere.

Good morning, I have an issue with transmission oil leaking out of the three o ring seals where the transmission selector shafts enter the top cover. This only happens during high rpms. This is an overdrive unit.
 
Has anyone added additional venting to the top cover. I understand there is possibly a small vent hole in the front however I have not looked at this yet. I am also going to build a TR4 motor this winter and am looking for direction and contacts for pistons, liners, and rods. I am good at mechanical logistics, and I have built two strokes, I have also been around engine builders and understand, however this will be my first real build. Yes, I understand that certain things will be left to the pro?s

I am installing a 123ignition distributor (laptop programmable) into my "project" TR6 race car. Wondering if anyone has this installed on their TR6 (or 250) race car with triple weber 45 DCOEs.  I thought about downloading the tuning curves from the 123 disti in my running #95 TR6 race car as a starting point:.
I realize the camshaft would make a difference in the settings, so my specs below. Both have 1.55 roller rockers.  Thoughts?

The "project" car engine has a Racetorations race camshaft, triple Weber 45 DCOE and a CR of about 12.5:1.  The camshaft specs are:

Peak Diff: Exh / Intake / LCA - 108.0 / 107.0 / 106.0
Duration: Intake / Exhaust - 336
Cam Lift:  Intake / Exhaust - 370
Checking Clearance:  Intake / Exhaust - 0.010"
Valve timing (at checking clearance) - Exhaust: Opens 96 BBDC / Closes 60 ATDC, Intake: Opens 62 BTDC / Closes 94 ABDC

The camshaft specs in my running TR6 are:

Duration: Intake / Exhaust - 320

Hi Mark,
          For a racing setup, you spend most of your time in the upper RPM
range that would be "all in" advance on a mechanical distributor.  I'd
recommend starting with an advance curve that mimics that, then fine tuning
for small gains on the dyno if you have the chance.

My typical starting point for a curve is a very simple line that starts
advancing at 2000 rpm, then maxes out advancing around 4000 rpm.

No added advance below 2000 rpm makes it easier to verify your idle advance
with a timing light accurately.

I prefer to install the programmable distributors at 16 or so degrees
static, NOT at TDC.  This helps with starting, and also improves rotor
phasing at max advance.

On the 123's, the rev limiter setting isn't always 100% accurate,
sometimes you need to program the rev limit a few hundred RPM higher than
intended.

I've attached a picture showing an example of a basic starting point for
the advance curve.
