Phil, This message got sent to my spam box.like many of the FoT emails.
I've told my computer many many times over the past couple of months that
FoT emails are not spam.
In spite of that, most of the FoT Messages do not reach my regular inbox.
Many people I talk to seem to have issues with recieving FoT messages these
days.
To our IT department....
Anything that can be done to Fix this obvious ongoing problem?

Jason and Phil,

After going a few months without any emails (and having to read the FOT
archives) on my Mindspring account, I finally set up a Gmail to receive
only FOT emails.  While many of those are still ending up in my gmail spam
folder (despite having them in my address books), at least I am now
receiving them.  Still receiving sporadic emails into my Mindspring
account.  With Mindspring being an older system (like AOL and Yahoo),
thought it may not have been playing well in the sandbox with the
FOT server.  Given several FOT members also experiencing problems and some
falling into my Gmail spam, leads me to believe it may be the FOT server
that is struggling with the protocols of other servers.  Gmail seems to
work the best and is easy to set up an account.

I know Mark Bradikis works hard to keep maintain the servers for the
FOT and depends on donations from members. I believe Mark is maintaining
about 25 mail list and 50 archives at this time.  Everyone should read the
link below to learn more about all Mark is maintaining for the various
communities.  I appreciate Mark's efforts in keeping the FOT community and
others connected.

Hello everyone,
First, I want to say I had a tremendous time last weekend in Canada watching all of you careening around the track with that determined giddiness that only comes?from a fun drive in a vintage race car. Boy, did I miss that part? I?could only watch, as my car was having none of it. I WILL see you all at Grattan next August, and I WILL have a compliant car! ? Still,?It was a good weekend, with great weather, and the Canadians put on a great event at a great track!?

The other reason I write today is to help a friend of a friend move a Tr3 project along to a new owner. The car is in the Bethlehem, PA area (I believe) and the price is right. Come and get it. First let me start by saying that I have my domain, microworks.net, hosted on a Microsoft Exchange Server

With that out of the way I have not had a problem with FOT emails going to spam.  What I do have is a Folder for FOT emails and a rule created that any emails from fot at autox.team.net are to be routed to that Folder. Maybe having an explicit rule for emails from that address allow them to escape being routed to Junk?

FWIW ? Like Dave, I have my own domain, spitfire4.com, hosted on GoDaddy. I?ve never had any issue of FOT emails going to spam. And unlike Dave, I do not have a rule about FOT mail. I sort by subject and because of the ?[Fot]? at the beginning of the subject line, all my FOT traffic is at the top of my email pile (often 50-75 emails when I go to look).

With that out of the way I have not had a problem with FOT emails going to spam.  What I do have is a Folder for FOT emails and a rule created that any emails from fot at autox.team.net<mailto:fot at autox.team.net> are to be routed to that Folder. Maybe having an explicit rule for emails from that address allow them to escape being routed to Junk?

Phil - even your most recent email was trapped in my Gmail spam folder.

Like I mentioned earlier in my email below, the older servers such as AOL,
Mindspring, and Earthlink may add to the issues, in combination with
FOT security protocol.  That is why I set up an Gmail email account which I
use only for FOT emails.  Some of those still go to Spam, but at least  all
of my emails to FOT are now making it out.  Under Mindspring (Earthlink),
I  did not receive any FOT emails after a period of time.  Earthlink was
blocking all of them (not even sending them to spam).

I do not have any problems with any other email list (whether
under Mindspring or Gmail), so there may be an issue with the FOT list
security protocol or maybe pushing forward one from the originating sender,
which even Gmail is picking up.  It was suggested to me by a friend in IT
that some standard authentication protocols like SPF, DKIM, or DMARC may be
missing.  According to my inbox, incoming emails from FOT do not use TLS.
 I do not know enough about those to explain them.

This one went to my Spam folder on my Gmail account. I can't be sure of the
reason, but it may have something to do ith the the number of forwards of
prior emails. I've noticed that sometimes I can't send a email reply from
an email with a ong reply chain.

Joe,

The Texas FoT hosted the K Cup at Hallett in 2006 and Eagles Canyon in
2012. Both times we were light on attendance with 28 and 24 cars in
attendance and that was back in the days when we had more local TxFOT cars
than we do now. I think half of the cars at Eagles Canyon were TxFOT.

Having just completed a 4,500 mile tow to Mosport, side trip to visit
family included, I get it. I asked around the paddock to see if the racers
in attendance would go to Hallett if we hosted and very few said yes. A
couple more agreed that the Ozarks track would be more acceptable but that
is a VSCDA tevent and still not interesting enough to attract the east
coast guys. I talked with a board member with CVAR and he thinks that they
would be willing to host us at Hallett in October or NOLA Motorsports Park
April/May without question and mentioned that the lengthened and completely
rebuilt Eagles Canyon races in the March or September were also potentially
available. Currently the CVAR races at ECR are fully subscribed but the
track is adding paddock space so that we can have room for more cars.

I think I could muster up help from the TxFOT racers to host in 2028, but I
personally would rather do a 2 day tow for an event with 40 cars than host
an event with 20. I'm thinking the best CVAR option would be NOLA. It's a
two day tow for many folks, in early May, or late April it hasn't got too
hot yet, it has lots of space to paddock, it's fast and we'd have a lot of
stroke with CVAR because it is undersubscribed. Also, it is in New Orleans.
So, having said all that, if this is of interest to the larger group, I
would want to work on a way to see how many would attend.

The Cup that Kas provided in 2003 is now going to reside in British Sports Car Hall of Fame, in Petersburg, VA, along with the beautiful case that Ken Knight made for the Cup.

Henry Frye provided the great new CUP. It features a plaque with all past recipients.

My 1960 TR-3A was shipped from the factory with the battery positive terminal as the ground.? When I restored the car many years ago, I switched it over to negative ground.? Someone had given me some instructions that I followed, and it seemed to work.? About 2 years ago, I replaced the battery and suspecting a charging problem, I also changed the generator and voltage regulator.? Since then, whenever I took the car on a long drive for a few days, the battery would run down.? I took my generator to an old electrical shop and he tested it on a bench test and said it was charging just fine.
I can't remember if I had polarized the new generator and voltage regulator when I replaced them.? So, I polarized them again, using some instructions I got from the Roadster Factory.? Now the ignition switch and amp gauge are backwards.? When the key is in the off position, the ignition light comes on and the engine will start and run.? When the key is in the on position, there is nothing.? When I started the engine, the amp gauge went negative.
Anyone have any idea what I could have done to get this switched around?? And, therefore, what I need to do to switch it back?

 I had installed a "dummy" voltage regulator, planning to switch to an alternator, and forgot to change the regulator back when I went back to my generator (they all look the same on the outside).? I switched the voltage regulators and my problem went away.? Sorry to bother you.

For those of you who are not members of the Vintage Triumph Register, I 
thought I would share the words I wrote to publish in their magazine, 
The Vintage Triumph, covering Shawn Frank taking home the coveted Amici 
Triumph award. This is what I submitted, we will see what the editor 
changes!  (I assume everyone knows Shawn is the editor of TVT!)

Shawn Frank wins the coveted Amici Triumph Award at the 2026 Kastner Cup

The Amici Triumph Award is presented annually to the individual who best 
demonstrates the Spirit of Triumph Vintage Racing during the Kastner Cup 
event. I am thrilled to announce Shawn Frank was chosen as the 2026 
recipient. For the first time the award went to a non-racer, and 
certainly nobody could be more deserving than Shawn for his tireless 
efforts to promote the marque.

Shawn has supported the efforts of our race series for years, attending 
Kastner Cup race weekends all over North America with all the manpower 
and gear necessary to capture the action. It is obvious Shawn gets a 
real kick out of capturing the essence of race experience. In addition 
to taking thousands of pictures, he also live streams video for those of 
us not able to attend. But the real work starts back at his office, 
where he enthusiastically culls the extraordinary volume of data to find 
and publish the very best. Shawn leverages Facebook, posting photos and 
videos that are seen and enjoyed by the world.

Shawn?s efforts have raised the visibility of Triumph Vintage Racing to 
levels we could never have imagined. As the race chair at both the Lime 
Rock event in 2025 and at Mosport this year, I worked closely with Shawn 
and immediately realized his talents and passion have made him an 
indispensable part of our team.

Congratulations Shawn, and many thanks for a job well done!

Shawn, I believe I speak for the entire FOT when I say thank you for 
your tireless efforts to promote us in ways we probably don't deserve! I 
enjoyed working with you these past two Kastner Cups, and was always 
confident when we needed something from you, all I had to do was ask and 
my expectations were exceeded.

As an example, the dramatic group shot taken down at Moss Corner this 
year was Shawn's idea, it did turn out spectacular!

I look forward to seeing you next year in Grattan, where nobody is going 
to ask me any questions about the event, right???  :-)

Boy, at least this list is being more civil than recent traffic on the 
Triumphs list!  Sheesh.

Yes, some people are having difficulties receiving all messages directly 
in their inbox.  Some messages are marked as spam, some are just 
discarded outright by their mail system.  I am trying to follow all the 
rules and regulations and RFCs, and keep up with current best practices. 
  It ain't easy!

Some of the problem is that my ISP is Comcast, and some other providers 
are blocking certain blocks of IP addresses, and autox.team.net has an 
IP in the blocked block.  And some providers block this IP address 
explicitly due to various nefarious malware that has snuck onto the 
server over the years, and have not removed the IP address even years 
after the bad guys were tossed out.  And I may have another bad apple, 
some things are just not right on the server, I'm working on that at the 
moment.  It's a never ending battle.

But there is hope for the future.  I may change the domain for the lists 
to lists.team.net, and may or may not change the IP address.  I will 
likely buy a new server, install a current version of Linux on it, with 
higher security levels, and migrate all the lists to Mailman 3, rather 
than try to keep the current ancient, unsupported versions of everything 
working.  I'm running low on baling wire and chewing gum.

The current server has been running for 3 years, well just two weeks 
short of 3 years.  That's quite a long time, many eons in computer years:

  16:45:49 up 1081 days, 21:32,  2 users,  load average: 1.20, 0.85, 0.98
[root at autox bin]#


I'm afraid if it ever does go down, it may not come back up again!

So be it known your complaints are not falling on deaf ears, just ones a 
little hard of hearing.  That's actually a reference to the fact that I 
have had "Sensorineural hearing loss, bilateral" for over ten years. 
Remember the old saw "deaf in one ear, can't hear out of the other"?

But as long as my health allows, I will continue to soldier on, your 
loyal, overpaid and underworked digital janitor.

I always wish I'd have had more time at these events. I wanted to ask him
about the car and how he liked the track, along with a number of other
drivers and usual suspects, but the timing didn't work. I'd catch most of
the drivers in their hauler, cooling down from the session.

I needed to do paddock walks in the AM or after all sessions are done and
more interviews. Note for next one. I will hopefully have better video
equipment and figure out video editing. I have a ton of raw vid, but it is
unedited. Mostly track action, as I clipped my phone to my camera and shot
vids while shooting photos. Lots on my North American Triumphs Facebook
page.

Plans are to improve before Grattan. As we know, life is what happens
between plans...

Hello Membership!

Need some help on trailer size and what will work. I had a 40' Exxis with living quarters that got totaled by a semi while bringing back a round tail Spit from VA. I had gotten  this trailer specifically because it had an extra tall interior height and allowed me to do a steel ramp up system to carry two Spits. So far, any replacement trailers I can find have the longest garage area with living quarters at a 24 foot garage.

So round tails and square tails are very close in overall length, basically a smidg'in less than 12' long for either one. So, a 24' box without a V nose in the front is tight at best, and I not sure it will even work. So, my question is there anyone out there that has put 2 spits in a 24' square box without a V nose? Is it possible and not have any car bumping damage from the towing movement?

Help please.

Thank you for the kind messages and calls about the driver photo series
from the Kastner Cup 2026 at Mosport. My wife Tammy, son Ethyn, and I had
an amazing time hanging out with you all in Canada. Erich had a blast
assisting once again, his third Kastner Cup with Media Credentials
(Buttonwillow 2019, Lime Rock 2025, and now Mosport), and will be back once
again in 2027 to aim and shoot. The father/son team extraordinaire
consisting of Eric and Tim Langreder have sent some incredible shots, have
assisted with social media posts, and have been afflicted with a sickness
that we can all relate to, as well. I will be going through all of
their shots for inclusion in The Vintage Triumph Magazine, but I wanted to
finish my usual series of photos, per driver, multiple corners, multiple
angles before moving on to the magazine. What a team, what a race group,
what a track, what a race! Henry was right, Mosport is an amazing track,
speaking from a media point of view. We just made history! Well done FOT.
Great show!!!

I am extremely honored to have been awarded the Amici Triumph Award by my
Friends of Triumph. This is something I will cherish forever. From the
bottom of my heart, I thank you. This will be displayed with pride
with some amazing stories of incredible people tied to it, told to any who
will listen. Truly, thank you all so much!

My final photos are out on social media (low resolution) and Dropbox files
are shared to this email list with high resolution (printable) photos per
driver for everyone that ran, P1 through P30, aside from a beautiful TR8
that wrecked, sadly, and a TR7 with "added everything", so not a
Triumph-powered car. I got photos of both, but not a lot.

Thank you so much for allowing me to be a fly on the wall. I hope the
series wasn't too much. It was a lot of fun for me. Now to stuff a fraction
of it into The Vintage Triumph Magazine (www.vtr.org). My photo count was
21,000+ and Erich's was 9800+ and the reality is that I may use 35 or 40
photos in the magazine, but they will be the best ones in the bunch... :-)

Now you know why I like to at least share these photos to you all. I was
really happy to see some of my photos on your collector cards. At least

Hey all, we are finishing up repairs/service to a 1959 TR3 for a customer,
except it seems it is never ending!  The head was sent to the machine shop
for a refresh and they determined it is cracked and not easily repairable.

So we are looking for a usable stock TR3 head.

If anyone has one, let me know.

Hi Jeff,
TR3 and TR4 are basically the same, with slight and insignificant variations.  TR4A is slightly different and improved.  
TR4A has a horizontal/level flat with a number stamped just above the number 1 cylinder intake port. The number is 511695.  It's easy to see.  I think the latest TR4A heads also had aluminum push rod tubes.  So some TR4A heads had steel tubes and later got aluminum.  Other than that all 511695 stamped heads were the same.  
The earlier heads had 3/8" exhaust valve stems and 5/16" intakes.  TR4A had 5/16" stems on both intake and exhaust.  I believe the early heads used 3 springs on the exhaust valve as well.

While I am not a fan of AI, I must say that this AI poster advertising 
for the iconic Duryea Hill Climb in Reading, PA is really cool. I cut my 
racing teeth in hill climbs and must say that the Triumphs (TR6, TR4, 
TR250, TR3) are really appreciated by the young and older fans who come 
to watch the events. We may not contend for the fastest on the hill, but 
we certainly represent the vintage car classes with pride and success; 
as evident that Richard Good (Good's Part Inc) in his TR6 holds every H2 
Class record in the numerous PHA (Pennsylvania Hill Climb Association) 
events held in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. I imagine Kas Kastner 
would be proud that we successfully represent the Triumphs in all 
fascists of vintage racing.

Does anyone know if the power bulge in a round tail GT6 is the same dimensionally as a square tail GT6 power bulge?   I have multiple square tail ones but need a round tail one and was thinking of cutting out a somewhat rusty square tail one and grafting it to the round tail bonnet if they are.

Or another way to ask the question is ?how much misalignment between the crankshaft and transmission input shaft can be tolerated??
I had a block completely gone through, including line boring and it ran very well until number one cylinder liner suddenly split. The engine hydro locked and broke the crank and front main bearing cap. I have a new cap; to use it requires the block be line bored again. I?m wondering if anyone else has a similar experience and can tell me either that it worked out well, or that I should throw the block away.

I could be wrong, but I don?t think line boring affects that dimension.  I understand it to be making the caps a little shorter then reboring to match the upper diameter in the block.  

Otherwise, a bunch of other dimensions would be goofed up too.

Yes, that is my understanding too. But according to my machine shop they do end up taking a couple of thousandths off the top of the journal. A couple of thou is within tolerance, but now we?re talking four thou or so, having to do it twice.  Getting a bit out of line?.
They did say that if I had a bell housing that would unbolt from the gearbox they could ?dial it in? with offset dowel pins?.
But alas I don?t have such a bell housing kicking around.

the crank is moving upwards from bore action to bore action. Means the piston deck is getting closer to the head each time and also the chain gets loosen more and more because the crank is moving towards the camshaft.
A matter of measurement how far you can go.

 There's no real "spec" on that, much depends on the existing housing bore dimension on the other 2 mains, & how much was taken off initially.If it didn't have much taken off in the initial line-boring, & center & rear housing bores are in limit, it shouldn't change the crank center too much to size the front cap & clean it up... but... if excessive it will affect all points noted, & rear seal concentricity...Heck I've seen engines that were bored so much that the bearing tang groove was too small!

I think Chris nailed it. Move it up too much and the timing chain becomes
an issue as well as the input shaft.

A long time ago I bought all the leftover Triumph stuff from a repair shop
that once was a Triumph dealership, which included spare engine cores and
among other things a box of loose bearing caps. There was a block without
caps that was nice otherwise and I decided not to waste it. I was able to
find a set of caps that was close when measured by the fingernail test. For
all I knew they may have been the correct ones but had separated
years earlier. My machinist line bored the block and reported back that the
crank front to back angle was not aligned very well; tilted when compared
to the camshaft bores, and that he had cleaned that up for me. I look back
now and suspect that he was justifying a large bill but who knows. Years
later I still have a couple of core engines I haven't used, stashed away.
The only long term result of saving that block was a thinner wallet. All
this stuff is fixable, including resetting the transmission alignment, if
you want to spend the money.

On a side note, we have also measured blocks where the figure 8
cylinder ledge was off when compared to the deck surface, and I've never
measured a block where the deck and oil pan surface were aligned, so I
don't deck the blocks.

I love the historic photos of Mike and the TR3.  I do feel I am driving it like I stole it!  The car is amazing and I am getting acclimated to it and its potential.   I hope to bring it to an event down south that Mike would normally attend to see how I do.  Let me know of any events and I can plan to be there, once the race engine is in it.  I will be attending the Labor Day weekend event at Lime Rock with it.  I hope to meet some Fot members there.
