[Healeys] Overdrive

I have a BJ8 that I just got back from paint (3 weeks). I have owned the car
for 7 years and never had an issue with the overdrive. Now, after picking it
up, the OD doesn't work. I noticed the OD switch was "on" when I picked it up
but didn't think anything about it. On the way home, nothing...no OD.
I took the tunnel off and the solenoid clicks when I am in 3rd gear so I know
it is not an electrical issue. Any suggestions? A friend said the plunger
needs to be moved up and down since he thinks overall, the OD is
"bulletproof".  I change the tranny oil annually and just did it 2 months ago.
If I need to move the plunger back and forth, is there an easy way to do it?
