Well I'd venture that hypoid and gear oil is the same animal. You mechanic
no doubt has some experience with the product and certainly would not "just
try it out" on and expensive come back should it not work as advertised..

Dave,

The only thing I know is the book calls for hypoid gear oil and no where on 
the bottle of Royal Purple does is say hypoid. I am aware that I just showed

my ignorance but it is what it is.
I thought by asking the list that I might possibly get someone 
knowledgeable, like you, who could answer my question. Is it appropriate or 
not?
