[Healeys] Red Lead Paint / Minium Paint

I have a question that's probably not related to Healeys, but more to
Jaguars.

In 1950ies Jaguar used to dip the suspension bolts to prevent them from
rusting in diluted red lead paint, sometimes called minium paint. The paint
is based on lead oxide, banned a while back, so not generally available.

The paint comes in powder form and is diluted in something that's based on
linseed oil.

I happen to have come across such paint here in Poland from old supplies and
a friend of mine in US would like to use it and dilute it himself in US.

My question is, does anyone remember such paint and what was the diluting
solvent used un UK or US? Or what's it's equivalent now?
