Actually, plumbing a spare isn't such a bad idea.  I had a friend back in
1987 who was driving his brand newly acquired BJ8 across the Bay Bridge
when the pump gave out on the upper deck.  Since he didn't know enough to
whack the rear bulkhead with a hammer or his hand, the car coasted to a
stop on the bridge (there's no emergency lane) and as he got out ... sure
enough some idiot rear ended his car and totalled it.  He's lucky he wasn't
inside.  If he had the spare plumbed in, flipping the switch would have
saved his car and even maybe saved his life in another dimension.
