[Healeys] Radiator Overflow solution anyone

On older British cars that don't have them I have seen these used from later Midgets and MGBs, it fits the look and feel of the other bits in there:

Option B, which I did on my 100 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/INT0/MCR3/N0186.oap?ck=Search_coolant+recovery+tank+-+universal_-1_-1&keyword=coolant+recovery+tank+-+universal (or go to O'Reilly Auto Parts and search for Radiator Overflow Tank, and pick the universal kind) I hid it under the fender on the driver side I believe, you couldn't see it unless you stuck your head in the engine compartment and knew where it was. Surprisingly effective. I just ran a longer tube from the radiator to the overflow tank, made sure it was all airtight, and not only did it overflow to the tank, it sucked it back when the car cooled back down like it was supposed to.

Hmmmmmmmmm ... right after I sent this I realized ALL caps probably have this valve, else the rad tank could collapse from the vacuum created as the coolant cools down.

D'oh.

Don't the caps used with an overflow system require a check valve, to pull the overflowed coolant back into the radiator as it cools?

Dunno if you can find the right size cap for a Healey rad with such a check valve.

Let it overflow. Once it reaches the level of about one inch below the rim it will not over flow any more. But make sure you have the proper radiator cap. Check with British Car Specialist as the depth which it seals is deeper than the standard caps.

The BN6 does not have a radiator overflow and leaves a big puddle in the garage after every drive.

My brother, the hot rodder, suggested a thin chromed overflow canister available at most rod shops and amazon. I am not sure if there is enough room and it would look to out of place.

Does anyone have a picture of an elegant and easy solution.

Thank you
