[Healeys] Texas Kooler

Here's my story about a cooling solution. I bought my BN2 in '99 and endured 
cooling issues until finally solving it in 2007.  I had installed a Texas 
Cooler with no measureable improvement.  I installed a newly rebuilt engine 
in 2007 and experienced the same problem. As long as I was driving - moving 
at any speed - it kept the temperature okay, but the moment I stopped the 
car, whether at a traffic light or worse, in traffic, I could look down and 
see the temperature rising. If I was in traffic, it wasn't long before I was 
in trouble.

I sent my radiator out to be re-cored high efficiency, or whatever they 
called it. When I reinstalled it there was no difference. I then installed 
an electric pusher fan in front, but still no difference except that it 
seemed to interfere with cooling when driving. The pusher was removed. 
After searching the internet for solutions, I came across the Flex-a-lite 
site. There were many choices and I don't recall which one I ordered, but 
can find out if anyone is interested. I got the fan, removed the Texas 
Cooler and had to make two modifications; I had to trim the size down about 
1/4" on each blade to clear the water return hose and I had to make an 
adapter for the mount. I made the adapter from aluminum to fit over the 
engine mount. I might still have the drawing somewhere.  They warn no to 
alter the fan, but I did anyway. It is important to make the changes the 
same to each blade so it stays in balance.

To my delight the cooling issue disappeared. Apparently the flex fan sucked 
the air through the radiator like the stock and Texas Cooler couldn't.  Very 
shortly thereafter I hit the road to Conclave in Burlington with my new 
engine and cooling fan. Fingers crossed as Charleston to Burlington and back 
is quite a hike. All went well and as expected, I ran into traffic on Rt. 95 
going past DC. Came to a full stop and sat there in 95° heat. I was a bit 
nervous about that, but to my amazement the water temp never went above 190° 
if I remember correctly. In any case, I had no problems at all and ever 
since.

Recently asked by a friend " Are there any Texas Kooler fans still 
available? if so where?"
As an alternative, is there a equivalent commercially available alternative?
