[Healeys] cable

Update. I removed the right angle drive, and it was definitely the
problem. The drive spindle was broken clean off. Incidentally, no sign
of the magic washer. So I got a new drive (w/ washer) from our friends
in Goleta and tried to install. It barely goes in the hole. Enough to
engage the drive spindle, but just barely. Not far enough to even begin
to screw on the knurled nut. Any ideas? The protrusion of the new
spindle looks the same as the old one, so maybe something is blocking
internally in the gearbox fixture. There are some flats on this
fixture, so I could try removing it, but does that open a barrel of
snakes? Can it be R&R'ed easily? I don't want to compound the problem.

With my angle drive, when I first pulled it out and I spun the drive end, the cable end also turned...it was only after I stuck something in the cable end did I discover that the drive end still turned and that something inside had sheared. Hope that makes sense.
