Patrick, I totally agree with you. The A40 Sports was a great little car, and particularly peppy when updated with dual carbs. They are very collectable vehicles of appreciating value. My A40 pickup is also fun to drive, does well in traffic and gets lots of comments wherever it goes.

Hello

If it wasn’t for cars like the Austin A40 Sports there wouldn’t be an Austin-Healey in the numbers that were eventually made.

The A40 Sports were made by Jensen Motors with an all alloy body under contract to Austin in the pre-BMC period. Released in late 1950 the A40 Sports was not marketed as a sports car, but as a touring car.

Without the contacts made through the A40 Sports, Jenson Motors would not have been given the contract to build the new Austin-Healey 100.

The A40 Sports was and is quite a spirited performer and I would be very pleased to have one in my garage as they formed a very important part of the late 1940s and 1950s British automotive history.

Don’t bag what you don’t know.

In case you ever wonder why Leonard Lord wanted the Healey 100. Take a look at Austin's 52 sports car
