[Healeys] re-installing gear box--BJ8

I am having one heck of a time getting the gear box back in my BJ8.  Three people--me under the car-----had to remove the two mounting pieces from the rear--finally got it situated in the rear slot.  Seems the drive shaft--that I have lifted up as high as possible is still in the way.  we gave up on it after 2 hours of trying.  I've replaced 2 of these in the past but never had this problem.  Anyone have any comments/advice they want to share?TItom
