[Healeys] Odd Overdrive Problem

The OD will operate normally for a few miles. I can switch it on and off. At
some point, after the car is up to operating temperature, if I switch it off
then back on it will not engage. The next day it will operate normally but
the same problem will reoccur. What might cause this?
