[Healeys] Conversion to single battery

I concur with the gel cell comment. I just replaced an Orbital battery that had been in use for over 15 years. The battery failed because it slid over against the drive shaft and was damaged. It was a full sized 34 series and cleared everything under the cover. I need to work a little harder on the tie downs…

Mike--

I'll try to find the brand and model for the single 12VDC battery I use in my BN1 and post a pic later. In any case I would suggest you find a 12VDC gel battery without top terminals to lower its height and instead find a model that has female terminals on one side, enabling you to more easily pass it through the hatch in the squab. I use the space that had been consumed by the (former) left side 6VDC battery to mount a large Tupperware-style container in which I stow a scissors-jack and handle and other gear related to tire changing as it will be made accessible once the spare tire is removed for changing.

Absolutely, if you are not entering Concours, I feel that a single 12 volts is the way to go.It is far cheaper to buy to start with, will last longer too. I ran two 6 vols in my BN6, then changed to 12 volts and will never go back.
Either you find a battery that is the size of your current battery tray or you fabricate a larger one although space is rather limited back there.

As of now the cable from the solenoid is on my BN2, but I have not run any other battery cables yet. I have two repro Lucas 6 volt batteries waiting for battery acid to be added for the first time. As this car will not be a candidate for concours judging I am considering conversion to a single 12 volt battery. What is the easiest way to do this? What series 12 volt battery is used for this? Anyone have any pictures of their conversion, wiring instructions?
