Shiny side out. I will piggy back on your question and ask what is the recommended torque for the intake and exhaust manifold nuts assuming you can find a way to access with a torque wrench.

The intake/exhaust gasket for the 6 cylinder engines has a shiny steel side. Does that side go next to the head or the manifolds? I've always put the steel side to the manifolds.
No oil involved. :)
