[Healeys] FW: [Shop-talk] 110 v motor wiring

Better still here is a couple of pics of the "business end" of the machine.
It's quite apparent that whoever built this knew what they were doing.
The very solidly mounted cup shaped cutter,  which is driven by a 2/3 HP
motor at 1750 RPM shaves very thin flakes off the tire which is rotated at
about 120 RPM by a second motor.
The cutting edge of the blade is at exactly center height of the wheel and
its position, X & Y, is controlled by handwheels.
The cutter is also set at a very specific angle to the surface of the tread
being shaved.
It has a profile guide mechanism which controls the "crowning" of the tread.
It's a fairly "industrial" piece of equipment.
I learned very quickly that the blade has to be kept razor sharp and that
any type of stone, no matter how small, is your enemy.
