At least you found the culprit. Nisonger used to be the place to go for a rebuild, in NY, but they no longer do that. Depending on where you live, you can either drop off or mail in your Speedo to British Speedo Service in Goldens Bridge, NY. Mike who does the work out of his house is reachable at 914/536-1346 and rebuilt the Speedo on my early 3000, which is the same as yours. He’s superb. Mention my name, Bob, and say I recommended him.

Yes that’s the next step to determine whether it’s the Speedo

Thanks for replying,The cable was tight. I removed the speedo and it is frozen. I need to drive the car and see if the cable is rotating in the housing.

It does have an angle drive, which may merely need tightening. Also, the cable may be loose behind the Speedo—a bit easier to check. I’d begin by unscrewing it from behind—yes you have to squeeze yourself under the dash—and letting it hang down where you can see it from the drivers seat. Then take a slow drive down your driveway to see whether the cable is turning inside the sheath. If so, you know the angle drive is fine. Next reinsert the end carefully into the back of the Speedo, being sure the square end inserts fully and the knurled  nut tightens (by hand) all the way home. Turn the inner cable with your fingers if needed to line it up. Then take a brief drive; if the Speedo works, the cable was loose at back. If not, the gauge needs service.
