Alternator/generator doesn't matter; polarity does. Most alternator 
conversions require conversion to negative ground--since pos. gnd. 
alternators aren't common--so just get LEDs with the correct polarity 
for your car (likely neg. gnd.). The 'D' in LED stands for diode, which 
block current flow in one direction, so if you get the wrong one the LED 
won't produce light.

In attached photo, 1157 LED is in driver-side (LHD) light; orange tint 
is camera bias, the light is red.
