Is it backfiring or spitting? Backfire in a carburetor occurs when the air-fuel mixture ignites at the wrong time, often causing flames to shoot out of the carburetor. This can happen due to issues like a rich fuel mixture, incorrect timing, or vacuum leaks. Spitting is ejecting oil thru the carb. At least that is true for my HS4 carbs.

Subject: [Healeys] Backfiring thru the carbs
A club member's BJ8 is backfiring thru the carbs, HD8's. We have adjusted the timing & enrichened the carbs. I plan to revisit both of those settings. What else might be causing this?
Thanks,
Gary H.
