[Healeys] Backfiring thru the carbs

 The car has sat dormant for many years. It has not been driven for many years & is in rough condition. It has had the engine rebuilt, but I do not have any info about what was done. Gary

At what throttle position does the backfiring occur? One possible cause is the timing is too far advanced. Are you able to check the timing at the point of backfire? Has any work to the valve train been done prior to the backfiring? I would suggest resetting all of the valve clearances.Harold
