I used to sell WOSP equipment before retiring and can recommend them very highly. WOSP were the only authorised Denso equipment supplier and I believe other similar starters were based on Chinese copies of Denso.Bike engined kit cars use a gear reduction starter as a reverse gear motor with a sprocket fitted to the propshaft. Not sure if they would move a big healey though.Kindest regardsTom McCaySent from my Galaxy

It has been trouble free so far. I have two OEM Lucas starters; both require significant rebuilding. The OEM starters need new field windings which was quite costly. One day I will have the Lucas starters rebuilt but the new gear reduction starter cost less than the rebuild.HaroldOn Sat, Jul 25, 2026 at 6:34 AM Michael Salter <michael.salter at gmail.com> wrote:
And, further to Simon's experience, I can say that I have always been able to make an original Lucas starter work perfectly satisfactorily and never found the need to install a gear reduction starter other than on AHX12 and that was in the interests of weight
reduction.
Just sayin' 😊

Can’t comment as to quality or price. I’d only say that I fitted a WOSP unit some years back and, so far, it’s been trouble free and, most important, very effective.

Hi All,
I've decided to replace my BJ8 starter with a gear reduction starter from British Parts Nortwest. The part number is: 16131AHD
Are there any opinions or experiences from anyone on the list as to whether this is a good choice?
Thanks in advance,
Dave Masucci
