Gregory ... you have to think more positively, more like a marketer ... for $47 ($us36) I am getting a whole heck of a lot (assuming I am smart enough to know how to pay my fees on time). Yes, I can drive on public roads by myself anytime. With the Tour, I have a whole network of volunteers planning events and coordinating with other very impressive events. I'll be gathering with like minded Jaguar enthusiasts and (hopefully) making new friends (pilfering other peoples cars for parts but lets just keep that secret for now). I will have opportunities to do what I would never be able to do on my own - just check out what some of the SC's are planning. I'll have people from all over North America admiring my cars (well not mine really, but some of you have some pretty pieces of British tin!). I get the exclusive limited edition 12"x6" wall plaque suitable for mounting on one's wall or on one's prized Jaguar. No, $47 is pretty damn cheap.
There is nothing stopping local clubs from underwriting some of the $36 ($47), or even from SC's trying to solicit donations to help defray the costs for participants from their sector. But that's not really the point.
I just wish I had more time and money to do the whole thing myself, it sounds like the adventure of a lifetime!
[And Gregory, you will NEVER be persona non grata - there is always a ying to every yang, and if we don't think about the ying and yang on every subject, something is liable to fall between the cracks.]

I seriously doubt that anyone is going to be willing to pay $47 plus $27 for the privilege of driving public roads, but I may be proved wrong. This has to be added to hotel costs, food costs, and in my sector, ferry costs, and ABFM entry fees. This means that anyone wanting to do the Victoria-Vancouver sector (and registering late, thus incurring the $27 courier fee) will spend an absolute minimum of $500 for this sector; if he/she continues to the next sector the registration cost will be spread between the two sectors, but food, accomodation and other costs continue. This whole thing is starting to look very, very expensive for the average potential participant. Still, I may be being wildly pessimistic. I hope so, given all the time that has gone into this. We are doing our best here to whip up enthusiasm, but the registration / courier fees won't help. I suppose I have made myself (once again) persona non grata.

It covers the cost of couriering the late registrations to the SC where the registrant starts (i.e. a separate package for late registrants, by overnight courier). Cost could be as high as $50 if it is to go to Florida, or as little as $10 to go to Toronto, so I picked a likely average (note risk here!).
