Hi Ray,
I used The J2 Howell book and found the KN gearbox quite easy to strip
following his instructions. I stripped it from the back.
Hardest part was working up nerve to open it up.
I had done my PA box several years ago and it worked out OK though the gears
are worn and so noisy.

I don't know if a 3 speed M type is the same/similar, but I think anyone can
rebuild these gearboxes.

Waiting for a flood of KN 5/12 odometer gear offers :-)

  Hi Guys,
Pretty quiet on the NAMMM scene so a few questions:

1-I have KN0389 gearbox apart and most of it is in excellent "as new "
condition. I am replacing the ball bearings. These are SKF6207-1RS front
and
R&M MJ7/8 rear. No problem buying the front metric bearing. However the
rear
MJ7/8" inch bearing is still available from some suppliers , but SKF say
none in North America and not going to import anymore. So anyone planning
to
rebuild the Wolsely MMM gearbox should source the rear ball bearing early.
  SKF number is RMS7.

2-The odometer gears in KN0389 gearbox are stripped and I need a new gear
on
the mainshaft and new pinion to drive the cable. The numbers are 5/12, 5
teeth on the mainshaft and 12 on the pinion. I understand these are the
same
gears as in the N Type cars. P Type cars use 4/10 gears, and I will install
this set if I can find a pair.
Anybody have either 5/12 or 4/10 speedo/odometer gears for sale?? THanks.

3-I have a J2 new block and am trying to source a new rear engine housing
the has the 'EARS " and bolts onto the block with 6 bolts. I think I have a
line on an MG M Type housing. Can anybody confirm the M housing is the same
as J2? At first glance, by photos, they appear the same.

Thanks from snowy Canada for any advice and help.
  Best regards, Bob
