That began in August 70 so some cars built from then to the end of the year should have it. AFAIK on GTs it was always screwed to the rear cant rail just in front of the hatch opening, with a hatch switch providing the earth in the upper right-hand corner as you look at the back of the car from outside. The 12v supply came from a purple wire in the rear harness, that goes up behind the right-hand C-post trim panel. If you Google something like 'MGB rear cant rail' or headlining you should find some pictures. PaulH. Luckily I did not turn away from Team Net, kept maintaining the mailing lists. My cars sat neglected, the Fat Chance Garage became just a big storage space, junk everywhere.? But deep down a tiny spark remained, kept alive by sticking with Team Net, especially a private Triumph racing group.? Went to a number of Kastner Cup events over the years, most recently Buttonwillow, California, May of 2019.? That event got that hidden spark burning a little brighter. So I am working on getting back into it.? Currently assisting a young fellow up in Layton, Utah, with his collection.? Currently a squaretail Spitfire, a Midget, a very nice rust free TR4 he just bought and three MGBs.? Over the last month or two the work has focused on getting the green '73 B running.? First big problem, the rear SU HIF4 was dripping fuel.? Obviously a needle valve that wouldn't close.? He pulls the carbs off, I bring them to my garage.? I clear a small space to work on them, and await the arrival of a rebuild kit.? Go through the carbs, take them up to his place.? He bolts them on, rear carb STILL leaking gas.? Off they come, back to my garage.? Turns out I made a simple mistake, forgot the sealing washer for the needle valve.? Fixed it, check my work on the front carb.? Took them back, bolted them on, no leaks!? Took some cranking, but got the engine to fire, sort of run, finally warmed up a bit and a nice idle.? And on occasion, it revved nicely. But the rear carb has a serious problem with backfiring and spitting out small clouds of fuel droplets.? More so than I remember from past experience working at my friend's shop.? I suspect a burnt, cracked intake valve at the moment. But it was running, that's progress.? I plan to go back up to Layton, about a 25 mile drive north, with a compression gauge, and my trusty old timing light, see what that tells us. But I am enjoying getting back into it, even though my skills have certainly gathered a bit of, shall we say, patina to them. Wonder if I should buy a Bentley's MGB manual?? Triumph manuals I got. mjb. When I bought my GT in 1990, I already had a Haynes manual. With the aid of this list, I almost tackled every issue on my MG with this book. Backfiring in one carb only I think it is bound to that carb. Air leaking into the carb via the butterfly shaft might be a cause. Any play in this? First one I drove was a Mark 2 Sprite. Nearly killed us all. I was used to driving the family wagons, honkin' big land yachts where you don't make a turn, you come about. So at the wheel of my friend's Sprite, I started to make the turn way in advance, and to my surprise just a small movement of the steering wheel resulted in an immediate turn. Wow! The first one I owned was a 1969 Triumph GT6+, which I bought in '76 or '77, can't remember. Now decades later, I really wish I had kept records of each and every car I bought and sold, commission numbers, dates, price, etc. Anyway I got hooked and LBCs became a large part of my life for many years. After a visit at a nice terrace at a lake with some drinks, I tried to start the GT again, but the starter cranked without success. We quickly found, that the original SU pump failed. Into my 1972 GT, tomorrow, goes its third, as the second failed last week, at ten years and 25,000 miles. I have never been successful with replacing diaphragm and points. Well, successful in that the pumps did not leak, but they would not pump. Installed in my GT is an auxiliary pump, wired to an unused rocker switch on the console. When the engine falters, moving the switch brings the auxiliary pump into service and engine runs well again. Running on the auxiliary pump, we drove in the CT Triumph Club?s British Reliability Run. 906 miles were added to my odometer. All cars travelled reliably and successfully, except for one that had a Weber carb, when its throttle return spring broke. If not then that is the cause not the pump. If you see 12v then quite possibly the points have developed a spike and pit, and stuck together. When this happens there is a single click when you turn on the ignition, and another when you turn it off. Relatively easy to clean them up and check the adjustment, which may involve removing the pump chamber from the solenoid body. Don't dismantle any further, and don't replace the diaphragm if it doesn't need it, replacement parts are often not as good as the originals and sometimes don't even fit properly. If the diaphragm were faulty the pump would be leaking fuel. The temp pump was a box shaped electrical pump. Unlike the original pump it always made a lot of clicks and indeed was pretty noisy. As I have plenty of old inner tubes left of my classic mopeds, it is easy to make a sound insulation solution. BTW I'm located in the Netherlands, so I think I'll try to find a local supplier of such pumps. For what pumping capacity should I look for? Yes, Moss is pretty expensive and the electronic pump and the conversion set are n/a currently. Unless you are an originality nut, there is NO reason to go back to the old pump. If you want to overpay, the electronic pump from moss is the way to go. If not, and you want rock solid reliability, go with a Facet, AND carry a spare. Wire it with "clips" so that you can remove it and replace it without doing a bunch of splicing and cutting. I've attached a receipt for one. I suspect you are in the UK so you probably won't want to order from this supplier! I tried replacing the points in the SU pump, but the diaphragm had gotten so stiff with age that it wouldn't pump any more. The facet is noisy as hell and a mount with lots of Sorbothane would be a very good thing, but it does work reliably. Be sure the one you have is a low pressure (3 lb) variety. There are higher pressure models that look just like the low pressure ones, and will happily overflow your carburetters. I was recently wondering if some kind of gear pump would be quieter. Don't know if there are any suitable ones out there that wouldn't require a fuel pressure regulator. I've had those get a little loose and cause the fuel pump to become intermittent. It can also cause some odd light symptoms that you probably would not see from inside. I tend to stick with the points. Ohms is very unreliable when looking for a bad connection as by its very nature it is likely to be variable, and will vary with the level of current and voltage being applied. An ohmmeter supplies a very low level of both. If you measure 12v on the component terminals then the supply is good and the component is faulty. But if you see less than 12v the connections are bad. All the rear end grounds are connected to one lug in the trunk.? The lug is connected to the body by one of the license plate mount retaining bolts.? It would be a good idea to clean that connection periodically.? I do. LG?s integration of AI tech even extends to the phone?s design, because like the Galaxy S8 and S9, the G7 has a dedicated digital assistant button. The difference is that on the G7, the button below the volume rocker summons the Google Assistant, not Bixby, which will probably make LG?s implementation slightly less objectionable. Maybe. So to help smooth things out, LG also worked with Google to create unique phrases for commanding the Google Assistant on the G7, such as ?Take a photo with low-light mode,? or ?Open the camera with AI Cam.? Clever thinking, but still not what I?d call super smart. wquvfyilt chooseable ceile punce ayclimatotherapeutics intermediary reductionism Agelacrinitidae -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
