Covered or uncovered?  Uncovered is far cheaper but the car will probably end up filthy.  Like covered with more road grime than you knew was possible.  

We?ve used Reliable (covered) to ship a Morris Minor Traveller cross country as well as Ship-a-Car-Direct (broker) and Brothers Motors (small, non broker) to ship non-LBCs cross country (both uncovered).  They were all good.  Most companies are brokers that will hand you off to the actual driver, assuming they can find one that will do it for the price the broker quoted you.  Brothers was different in that we dealt directly with them.

My understanding of the way this works is that you don't actually contact
with the transporter. You contact with an agency who will arrange with a
possibly single man operation that will transport your car.

So probably it's luck of the draw.

Simon - That?s ONE way that it can work. But you can also contract directly with an owner/operator. And some agencies have better reputations than others.

I found an owner/operator through the local grapevine of vintage car owners. I?m on the west coast, and this guy made regular runs up and down the Pacific coast. I?m sure there are similar operators on the east coast.

special thanks for barney gaylord and his mgaguru website.  i installed the grill with the three "studs" instead of bolts on the top.  yesterday the hood release failed to hood release.  3 bolts out of the bottom of the grill (which were metric - obviously a moss motors grill), and the grill came out.  a little finagling and the hood popped open.  whew!!!!!

now - the question is what happened and how do i prevent the hood release from not working in the future.

When you pull the come knob does the wire in the middle of the cable move in relation to the housing? 
When you move the lever the housing is connected to does it engage the choke?
Does the housing move in relation to that lever?

With that choke arrangement the inner stays still and the outer is 
pushed up the inner as the dash control is pulled.? That lifts the lever 
on the interconnecting shaft which turns the cams on each carb to engage 
fast idle and push the jets down.

To set the cable pull the dash control out about half an inch, slacken 
the screw holding the inner, then pull the free end of the inner up 
until the fast idle cams just touch the fast idle screws and tighten the 
clamp screw.

Pulling the chock control further should them lower the jets, and 
pushing it home should raise them.

This does need the clamps on the interconnecting shaft and the fast idle 
screws to be adjusted correctly so both carbs do the same thing at the 
same time in terms of enrichment and fast idle.

I can't see if the cams engage with the throttle adjustment screws and 
open up the throttle.
If not, they need to be adjusted.

I also can't see if activating the choke is dropping the jets.

Those are things that you could check by just manually moving the choke 
lever that's connected to the cable and seeing what else moves.

The choke cable lever and fast idle cams aren't moving far enough.? 
Barely half of the cam is passing the fast idle screw whereas virtually 
the whole of the arc should, and it's not moving the jet lever down at all.

You probably need to move the inner down through its trunnion clamp to 
get more movement of the lever.? How far can you pull the dash control?? 
Mine is a good 1 3/8".

You may need to alter the position of the choke lever on the shaft.? 
When you have full travel pull it half-way and it should make a 
right-angle with the line of the cable.? If it's too low it can make the 
start of the pull hard and if it's too high you may not get enough travel.

with no choke, just at the start of enrichment, and full enrichment.

Went in and really oiled everything I could find.  Now the hood pops open with gusto!!  So if you haven't oiled that mechanism in the last decade or so now might be the time to do it.

Car was ostensibly a running driving car before it was dismantled.  We got it in kit form

Now its together; but brakes are TERRIBLE; you really have to stand on them to get the car to stop.  I've adjusted the brakes as per recommendations, but I'm thinking a new set of brake pads and turn the drums is needed.

I know this won't hurt but am I right on this?

And yes, I know brakes are important; it was just shy of terrifying when I drove the car this afternoon

So, what is the current state of the brake friction surfaces? Are you talking about the drums and shoes that came with the car? Of course they are going to suck. The drums and shoes are probably glazed.

Yes, turn the drums. But get new quality shoes and bed them in properly. then see how it brakes.

You're likely right.

If that service does not show glazing problems, how well was the brake
fluid flushed? You said the vehicle was in kit form. Was the brake system
in pieces? How old is the system fluid?

Is there any chance that 1 or more brake cylinders are leaking? Did you get any grease or fluids on the shoes? If the cylinders are leaking new shoes and drums will quickly develop the same issues.

Master and all cylinders are new.  Brake fluid is new.  All brake lines were removed, cleaned and flushed or replaced before reinstallation   Lots of bleeding has occurred as well.  (Both the car and me)
