San Francisco is "The City".
New York is the "Big Apples".
Los Angles use to be called "The City of Angles", but is now just "The
Dump". No offense.
And for Brit lovers, London is called "The Square Mile". And like most
British things, that makes little sense.
Manhattan is sometimes referred to as "The City", but is a borough of New
York, so doesn't qualify as a city at all.
Many cities have nick names, even Oakland, "Oaktown".
Oh, and the "Emerald City" was taken long before Seattle stole the name.
Dorothy and Toto followed the Yellow Brick Road and found the true "Emerald
City". Dorothy was from Kansas, but there is no mention of the town, though
Kansas City known as "The Heart of America".
A better name for Seattle might be "The City of Rainbows", or "Rainbow
Town". Any other names come to mind?
