Smokey,
	I have a high performance 396 that I installed in my 55 Cameo in 1970. I am
using an electric fan, no shroud, and synthetic oil (since 1978 ), and have
never had an overheating problem in this configuration. I have even hauled
an 8ft Camper on the truck at 70 plus mph ( when I had the heavy springs and
3/4 ton rear end), and still not had a problem. ( This was when I was living
in southern Texas, which is slightly warm all summer )
Other things you may need to check are timing ( retarding the timing a few
degrees may help solve the problem), try running higher octane fuel, or add
some octane boost to your fuel. If you are running a higher compression
engine, these new lower octane fuels can be a real problem. I am running
10.25:1 CR, and found I could eliminate the problems I had with low octane
fuels. I have a home designed system that I installed in 1975, but there
used to be many water injection systems on the market.

55 Cameo, 396 powered that I have owned since 1968.
