[Shop-talk] Cool thing I saw in London

I definitely second Doug's suggestion.

In any country check out both the industry and transportation museums. We
visited Hungary and Croatia last fall and both had amazing museums typically
for the equivalent of $2 - $7. While a diesel engine or turbine is the same
anywhere, the transportation museums which had a lot of the standard stuff,
also had eastern bloc cars and motorcycles that I've never seen before.

Zagreb's (Croatia) technology museum had a Tesla exhibit with a huge
VanDegraaf generator. The talk was all in Croatian, so we were a bit lost.
They called for volunteer from the audience to go inside a (Faraday) cage
that they arced a 6+ foot spark to. Whoa, I'm not used to stuff like that
with OSHA around.

Most of the displays had the native language and English too.

Thanks for bringing back some cool memories Doug!

Jack

If any of you on this list ever go to London, be sure to visit the Science
Museum (across the street from the V&A museum). It has an amazing
collection of stuff from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution to the
present, including the reconstructed workshop of James Watt, inventor of
the modern steam engine. (And it's free.)
