To answer my own question and in case anyone was interested, I did find a forum page that says an automotive polisher can be used on a floor with polyurethane.

quick question

I need to re-seal a section of 110+ year old hard wood floor. When we sanded, re-stained and did poly, I didn't do the poly correct. I'd like to redo the poly on about a heavy traffic, 4' square area (for now) so it is totally sealed.

I plan on buffing the poly between (several+ thick) coats. If I buy an automotive, electric orbital polisher (for future use on WeeBeasty), will it be ok for use on this flooring application? And if so, what attachment would work best for this emergency fix?

Thanks!!

tim
