[Shop-talk] Portable inductive spark testers?

I have that unit (not sure about the brand, but it looks exactly the same),
and it does work pretty well. My only complaint is that the light is not
very bright and ca be difficult to see in bright sunlight. I made a custom
sun shade (cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels) for mine and it is
much easier to see in the sun. The thing I really like about this is that
it does not need batteries or have to be hooked up to the car. That means
it will work on the lawn mower / weed eater / chainsaw when it breaks down
out in the middle of the yard. My only other complaint about this thing is
that it won't clip onto the plug wire (so you can't set it in place and
pull the recoil on the mower to check for spark). The one I have is at
least 30 years old and still works.
