[Shop-talk] portable air conditioners

I think the mini-split solution fails the "doesn't cost several 
hundred dollars" requirement.  Also, I am interpreting Tim's 
situation differently.  I think he is saying that this is an office 
that he does not own and therefore he cannot chop holes or otherwise 
modify.  As others have said, the heat has to go somewhere.  The 
least invasive modification I can imagine would be venting above 
suspended ceiling tiles.  This would make it hotter up there and 
would still probably be frowned upon by whoever is in charge of the 
place.  The only other thing I can think of is using fans to 
circulate air out of the office through the door, which of course 
means leaving the door open.  Your only real solution may be in the 
hands of "the idiots" who are supposed to fix the system.  Complain 
that the computer equipment can't handle the heat.  Everyone seems to 
accept the idea that computers need to be kept cool, even if they 
don't particularly care about the comfort of the people.
