[Shop-talk] solar battery maintainer

I second removing the battery and charging it on a good charger in the shop.

I have two solar panel battery chargers like you're describing. They're
designed to either sit on the dashboard and plug into the cigarette lighter
or on top of the car and wire directly to the battery.

Perhaps they have bought me a few extra days from time to time, but each of
them has repeatedly left me with flat batteries. They will not keep a
battery charged over a season, or even a particularly long stint in the
driveway or at an airport.
