The motor has three leads. One is connected to neutral directly. The other tow wires have a run capacitor connected between them. Applying power to one of these two leads will make the motor run in one direction and applying power to the other lead will make the motor run in the opposite direction. There should be a label on the motor somewhere indicating which wire is which. I'm overhauling it to hopefully use to shave tires on wire wheels. I have all the mechanical issues resolved but am stumped when it comes to rewiring the 110 volt single phase reversable cutter motor. Anyone out there who is knowledgeable on AC motor wiring who would be prepared to offer some assistance. ---------------- All the best, Al Fuller _______________________________________________ Shop-talk at autox.team.net Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html Suggested annual donation $12.96 Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/shop-talk http://autox.team.net/archive Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/shop-talk/dave1massey at cs.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I have a 1980's vintage Western plow that originally used a western fluid that is compatible with 5606. 5606 is a fine hydraulic fluid, to a point. It is only good down to a certain temperature and it is somewhat susceptible to absorbing water. A couple years ago I did a bunch of research and found that Buyers "Blue" hydraulic fluid was compatible with 5606. It is a lower temp rating (down below -50F) and supposed to be more stable for long term storage. So I drained, flushed and refilled my plow setu with this stuff. Not too expensive, I can get it locally, and it has worked great so far. I drained and refilled the plow Saturday, and the fluid looked like new. Very helpful. The metal looks very good; I just want to be certain nothing is lurking in the pits that might come back to haunt me. I am curious to know if anyone has ever tried the Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer under auto paint. I have used it with good success in general shop work, but have wondered about its spot use as I work though the car. I am thinking that any use of it would be hit with a second primer later, just for consistency of the primer surface. I'm sure you can find it for Winderz. ________________________________ From: Shop-talk on behalf of Jeff Scarbrough Sent: Sunday, November 20, 2022 10:12 AM To: eric at megageek.com Cc: Shop-talk at autox.team.net Subject: Re: [Shop-talk] Video editing help I use the built-in editor in Windows to clip my dashcam videos. I'd like send a large volume of visible air down the vent and see if it leaks out somewhere. I'm thinking I'd drill two small holes- one for a balloon which I'd inflate to seal the vent, and one below it for a smoke gun. Sound plausible? Better way to do this? Is there such a thing as a high volume smoke gun for consumer prices? I've tried soapy water and smoke sticks to look for escaping air, but it was inconclusive; I think I need positive pressure inside the system. Message-ID: <20221123.095055.23226.0@webmail11.vgs.untd.com> I had a similar issue in my shop where I have a small tank with pump to get sewage over a small hill before gravity takes over. But in my case the vents are not up through the roofline so my approach was simply to flush the tank by running the tap for an extended period. I would only have the smell a couple of time a year. if your vent line is in the wall, it will be interesting whether you could get the smoke to show itself. I know smells can find a way through, not sure whether smoke has the same penetration... Another potential solution is a small blower in the vent line... In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: I recently used a smoke generator powered by heating up mineral oil to detect vacuum leaks on my car. I think if you use enough mineral oil you can get enough smoke, but hard to say. The kit I used was borrowed from a friend but you can find them for less than $100 on ebay. For reference, one seller xfordguyx sells them as "Smoke Maker Pro - EVAP Machine Diagnostic Emissions Vacuum Leak Detection Tester". You can also make your own with a soldering iron as the heat source. Just putting some light air pressure with a compressor, maybe 5 psi, should generate enough noise from air escaping to detect a leak. The bigger the leak, the more air pressure you might need. The plumber put an inflatable plug in the cleanout where the new drain joined the old and a cap with a hose connection on a convenient pipe - the toilet drain. I filled the pipe with water until in came out the roof vent to show there were no leaks as all pipes were exposed.? When the inspector was checking two hours later, it helped that water came out the roof pipe within seconds. Example plugs: https://www.mcmaster.com/drain-pipe-plugs/air-and-water-inflatable-plugs-for-y-joints/ https://www.mcmaster.com/drain-pipe-plugs/air-inflatable-plugs-with-bypass/ This option would only work if you capped all the drains and had the pipes exposed. Have you considered a clog in the vent side?? Maybe a bird tried to build a nest in the vent at the roof? You might also want to consider an endoscope like https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M5NJ4M8/ (this no longer available, but it is what I have).? Here are that brand's current products https://smile.amazon.com/stores/page/369BBAA9-2EA4-45D3-B9E8-1A06EBB649C4 These are handy.? I don't recommend one over about 20 feet.? That is about the max length I could push through a A/C duct before it twisted too much.? You could feed the scope down the vent from the roof or a higher drain and look for anything obvious.? You can also feed it into the wall at an outlet box or light switch (outside the box, but under the face plate) if one happens to be in the stud bay with the vent/ Brian On 11/23/2022 5:51 AM, Jim Franklin wrote: > Apologies if I've asked this before, I can't find any emails from it. That's going to be a top heavy machine to drag around. We laminated two thicknesses of 3/4 maple plywood and installed casters at the corners - 2 fixed and two steerable, able to lock up easily from the front. The maple plywood was something we had readily available as cut offs from work (a lifetime ago). Super strong and rigid. The base is a few inches larger than the base of the cabinet, with the contact points of the casters around the edges of the cabinet. Were I to do it over I'd make the movie base significantly larger than the base cabinet of the Unisaw and use 5 or 6 inch casters. The wider base would slightly increase the floor space it takes (I push a scrap barrel, etc under it when it's stored), but make it safer to roll across large expansion joints, while larger casters would also help with uneven surfaces and raise the saw slightly, which I wouldn't mind as I'm tall. Mobile bases for table saws are a problem that's well solved by commercial offerings. Unless you have a supply of salvaged casters, materials to build one are going to cost nearly the same as buying one, and commercial bases have a number of features that make them much better than most shop-built stands (most notably, completely unloading the wheels when the saw is in use.) Don't get me wrong, I love shop built tooling, but i'd save my energy for solving unique problems, and not ones shared by everyone with a table saw. > The wheels could be recessed some to reduce the height and it would also limit its tendency to tip if you hit something on the floor. > > depending on your collections of scraps and drops..the cost of the wheels might be your only expense > john > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Doug Braun > To: Jeff Scarbrough , > Sent: 11/26/2022 8:24:00 AM > Subject: Re: [Shop-talk] Tool Dolly > ________________________________ > > Those Amazon models look pretty plasticky - I double they would survive a 400 lb. tool, especially the $23 model. > > I have two of this Bora model: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PATV14A. Yes, I agree, I didn't like the plastic corners on the items I was looking at. I guess I was getting those due to my search string. The "Mobile base" did work alot better. I like the Bora bases. Anyone have any input on 2 vs 4 swivel casters? I think the 4 would be better, but then you've got 4 wheels that you have to raise or lower. I'm supprised that someone hasn't come up with a cross bar to go across the 2 swivel casters. But then you couldn't steer them. :) John John T. Blair WA4OHZ email: jblair1948 at cox.net Va. IT comes down to 'do you need to push it sideways and back-forth, or just back and forth?" In my case, my saw is stored in a corner of the garage, with stuff around it. to get it out, I need to move it right, then away from the back wall, and then swivel it 90 degrees. Impossible to do with two swivels, but pretty straightforward with four. (as I mentioned, I put two kits together to make that happen, biut there are kits with four swivels) I only lock two of the wheels in storage, but do all four in use, easy enough to do with the toe of a boot. my band saw is on a two swivel base, because it just gets pushed against the wall. -- David Scheidt dmscheidt at gmail.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The fire in the exhaust will burn and degrade the wrap material if it's directly in contact. The wrap depends on metal to take the brunt of the actual fire - then it'll further insulate the pipe. It may be that even though the lamps are rated for 3.5v that they are rated for lower current than the original ones, which would cause the new lamps to drop more voltage than the older lamps when mixed. And there will be vibration in the pipe - flexipipe is mainly to cope with rocking back and forth of the engine as power goes on and off. Neil On 28/11/2022 00:42, Tim . wrote: > Thanks?Neil. How does the resistance of the new bulbs compare to the original (working) bulbs? 2. Might be worthwhile to feed 3.5V from a bench power supply across a fresh bulb to see if it burns out just as quickly as when plugged into the string.? You could also use batteries but it might be trickier to hit 3.5V.? Three NiMH batteries in series would yield 3.6V which ought to be close enough but you have to be careful not to use them straight off the charger since initially they'll be at 1.4V per cell. 3. You said you didn't notice the new bulbs overly bright before they burn out.? I wonder if they're really burned out or if the shunt at the bottom of the bulbs are for some reason causing a premature short circuit?? Using a magnifying glass, can you tell if the filaments are really separated?
