After some of the replies, I am considering that the noise *may* be 
present at lower gears, but just not as loud.  FWIW, I'm mostly dead these 
days, which is good considering I don't care what most people say!  8>) 
(present company excluded!)

Once I get the car back, I'll have someone with much better ears listen as 
well.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.  This one baffles me and I'm curious 
to find exactly what it is now, just to answer the mystery!
