I don't think anyone knows where it comes from, cause so many people have
said it.  Tom Waits said that back in a 1978 interview.  This was back when
he was "up-and-coming".  The comment came after the interviewer said he only
had Diet Pepsi to offer him, and good ole Tommy produced a flask from his
pocket.  The only way to sound like that man, is to do just what he
does.....drink a LOT, and smoke a LOT.  <G>
