How could your technique be good for the engine? Slowly cranking the engine
(w/o spark) makes the oil pump slowly build pressure & flow. Piston rings
scrape against dry cylinder walls, and connecting rods and crankshaft
journals spin on dry bearings.

It seems to me that getting the engine to fire as quickly as possible will
make the oil pump work quicker and provide oil to critical areas. Is my
logic all wrong on this?

The trick tool with the small-block Chevy crowd is a special bit for your
electric drill that fits in the distributor hole and spins the oil pump.
Too bad we can't do that with our SHO engines. :(

If one is concerned with thick oil causing cold-start wear on bearings, let
me offer this:

Install a push-button engine-start switch tapped into the ignition switch
wires for the START position. When you wish to crank the engine (to
circulate oil) without starting it, proceed thus: Make sure the ignition
key is in any position OTHER THAN "run". Press the engine-start switch.
The start will crank, the engine will not fire.

Same solution works well for cars stored over the winter --- makes it easy
to lube up the engine before its first spring start.

A block heater heats the AF but not the oil. It is lack of lube that wipes
bearings not cold AF, because the block is warm but the sump is cold to me
it helps start but does noting for cold start bearing wear.
