I bought a cheap craftsman 5 gal rotary pump one time. (rotary is the noisy
one that will destroy your hearing) I used it to do body work and general
restoration in my garage at home. it lasted me 9 months, then had the rotary
pump replaced under warranty, then I got another year or so out of it, then
it went into the trash. so I guess it all depend on what you are going to be
using it for. when shopping pay attention to the SCFM rating of the
compressor. and the duty cycle. when they say 100% duty cycle, make sure
they don't mean 100% duty cycle at 5 psi. otherwise it'll di eout very
quickly and you'll spend more time waiting for it to catch up than you will
actually working. the one I have now I bought used, it is an ingersol rand 2
cylinder piston type pump runs off 240 volt. very nice compressor, but
orignal cost was around $1800 or so. of course, I run a sandblasting
cabinet, and air grinders, and a HVLP spray gun system. for that amount of
draw I put on the compressor, I had to buy a $450 oil separator, air drying
system. to keep oil and water out of the hoses and off of the cars I work
on. nothign is more frustrating than putting down $650 for base clear paint,
only to have a $300 compressor spit water all over it.

SHO Content: I put a yamaha badge and 24V fender badge on my air compressor
out of boredom
