Mark,
If you've taken the entire width of the bearing out of the equation,
where exactly did it go? In the cases I've seen where the bearing was
"removed from the equation", the piston was also removed from the block as
it no longer was connected to the crank. Not much of a way for the bearing
to get out of there without removing the bearing cap.
