Yes, this is the key issue. Any decent compressor can deliver 90 psi to the
tool, but the overall flow rate is the most important. A 1 HP compressor can
deliver 90 psi, but a 20 HP, 60 gallon 220V compressor delivers a much
greater airflow at the same 90 psi.

The specs you have to pay attention to when buying a compressor are the
amperage draw of the motor and the cfm at psi output. Horsepower,
particularly when buying Sears tools, is not believable. I have a 25 year
old Sears compressor rated at a whopping 1 hp. However, the current draw
and the cfm are pretty darned close to what you get now in a 5hp compressor.
So, maybe hp isn't what it used to be?

You also need to look at the tools you're considering buying and what their
cfm at psi requirements are. For the tools you describe, you're paroably OK
with what you're proposing to buy. But if you want to add a sand blaster, or
body shop type tools, you may be a bit shy. For about $400, you can buy a
(blue) Campbell Hausfield 5-6hp unit that will run circles around the Sears
models.
