Hey Ron!

Send some of whatever you are smoking down this way!

No, seriously that sounds like it might be a lot of fun. IIRC Doug Lewis had
some Tbird hulks laying around that are that vintage. Might not hurt to
give him a call.

Jim

Subject: [Shotimes] ATX parts car? & some other misc Q's

First the ATX parts car Q's:

How much should I expect to pay for one? I'm only looking for an engine,
harness, electronics, engine acc. and IP, so the rest of the car can be
toast.

Where can I get such a parts car? None of my local J/Y's want to help. I
talked with my ins co, and the info I found out is that to go to an ins co
auction, one must have a license to operate a scrap yard or have a sales tax
id and fed tax id for a scrap yard. Plus, most of the scrap yards have
"deals" already cut with ins cos, and those cars don't even make it to
auction.

Now, some of the other Q's:

Having sent my spare block, heads, and crank to the machine shop to have
them checked out, I was told I needed to have the crankshaft (rod journals
only) ground and polished. Are oversize bearings available for the SHO
engine? Is this even possible with the SHO crank? Or would this be a good
time to stroke the engine? (j/k)

Also, anyone know of any nice (straight body, decent interior, good 5-speed)
84 to 88 T-Bird Turbocoupes around for cheap? Engine need not run. Prefer
84 to 86 models, since the 87-88 models are higher, and I'll be changing out
most of the stuff anyway. Color doesn't matter, since I will be repainting
Porsche Gaurd's Red, and the interior color doesn't matter, since it will be
replaced with all black (hard parts need to be in fine shape, carpet,
headliner, and seat fabric can be in shreds, but seats should not be
broken).

I'm hitting my first mid-life crisis... Geez, I'm only 34(!)... And I'm
trying to build my "ultimate" car from all the cars I have had in the past.
The red/black from my first car, 79 Mercury Capri RS Turbo (in the retiree
set before I knew it :-), favorite body style from my 3rd car, 84
Thunderbird Turbocoupe, and favorite engine from my 31st(!) car, my SHO :-)
(I've had 36 cars so far :-)

Anyway, here is my project in a nutshell: Turbocoupe with SHO engine, twin
turbocharged, about 400hp, 5-lug conversion, Torq-Thrust wheels (SVT Bullet
may be substituted), 8.8 rear with 3.73 rear gear and Traction-Loc.

Thanks All!!!
