That's what I did. I didn't go all the way through, just down enough to
go through the top plate. Each tower has maybe 1mm dimple in it after
the drill bit went through the top plate. Also it's a good idea to use
some touch up paint on the bare metal so it doesn't rust.

For future reference, you're not actually supposed to drill clear thru
the
strut towers with a 3/8" bit. It weakens the towers some small amount.
There
are special bits that cut completely thru the upper plate but only graze
the
top of the strut tower (plus a small pilot hole). More better that way.
