Fw: [Shotimes] Sorta OT: yay good brakes and tires

I've found that I can unintentionally trip the sensors by approaching
from a distance or coming down a hill. Bumps in the road, flashing high
beams on (legitimately), etc have done it for some of the lights in my
area. Flashing the lights while sitting under the light will do
nothing. (yeah, I was young dumb and stupid once but at least it was on
a desolate intersection with nobody around for miles)

Our system is called Opticom. Our light is located about 7 feet of the
ground, and is a very bright strobe. It would be difficult to set off
the sensor since it is aimed for vehicles with the lights up that high,
but I am sure it could happen on some systems. Never really thought
about it till now.

Many traffic lights have a light sensor on them to switch the lights
over to green for the emergency vehicles. Flashing your high beams
rapidly at one will usually get the light to turn green, but it's a
pretty stupid thing to do and the ticket is pretty hefty...

Around here, the emergency vehicles automatically get green lights. The
motorist (enginist? ;) would always be wrong.
