[Shotimes] pinion rivet (was MTX Tranny Troubles )

Was able to get PPlus to look at my tranny yesterday. He had a cancellation
and was able to rip into the tranny and get everything back together in an
afternoon!
Doug found that I had a broken pinion rivet. Apparently it worked loose,
caught on the case, broke, and then flung itself into the 1 - 2 shifter
fork. This chunk of steel would bounce around, sometimes preventing first
or first and second engagement.
Doug replaced the blockers and synchros, but said that the replacement bolt
for the busted rivet is obsolete. The other 9 rivets were all tight. A
little worried that there could still be trouble down the road.
Wonder if anybody else has ever had a rivet break?
Guess that I just will have to be a little easier on fast starts and quick
shifts from now on...
Would have liked to have a quaiffe installed, but don't have that much extra
dough and would be reluctant to do it with all that many miles on the thing.
Looks like a quaiffe will have to wait for the next SHO.
