[Shotimes] clutch switch

My 91 (129K) misbehaves when starting on cold mornings. If I press the clutch pedal for 2-3 seconds before starting, then the
starter engages nicely, although not perfectly smoothly. If I go too fast, starting is a bit erratic, as if something is not
engaging.

I suspect that the clutch switch may have a little arthritis and is not moving quickly. What would be a good lubricant for this
switch?

Another possibility is the starter relay, which I believe is original.

How about the starter solenoid? Although the relay is on the fender wall, the solenoid still is inside the motor housing, isn't
that right? Might I be looking at a starter rebuild? If so I'd rather do it now than a week or two hence when the weather gets
nasty. (George and Alan, use your imaginations.)

Advice please, Obi-Wan!
