That's true in a full tube frame chassis race car, where the tubing
extends all the way to the front of the car, but a production car with a
cage usually puts the tubing in the middle between the front and rear strut
towers. Which still leaves all the sheetmetal forward (and behind the rear
towers) for absorbing a frontal impact. This keeps the area between the
towers braced up fairly well, gives you at least a fighting chance.
