[Shotimes] TRANNY HELP ASAP!

I blew my tranny at 80k. It was rebuilt for $1,950. First trip to the strip,
it blew again. A 93K-mile used '91 MTX from Al Fitz went in. 10K miles, 9
months, and about 50 trips down the strip, and it's still fine.

A used tranny is NOT a crapshoot.

Okay, you just scoffed at me for trying to sell a tranny for $375, but it
happened.

If you want to take a stock SHO tranny out of a donor and plant it straight
into another SHO, yes, it can be done for $1K. I agree
on that. Problem is, most SHO donor trannies are no longer fit to go into
another SHO without a rebuild. Sure, if you can find a
low-mile donor, you're lucky. The more likely case is that Matt is going to
need to take a donor and rebuild it. If he doesn't put
a Quaiffe into the rebuild, he's asking for a high-mile stock differential
to last longer than his last high-mileage stock
differential, and I'm sorry Ron, that's a crapshoot. Anyone who takes a
stock MTX-IV and pays shop labor to put it into a SHO, as
is, without rebuild, is throwing dice.

Courtney charges $500 for tranny R/R. A Quaiffe is $1230. Those I know.
My advice to Matt was realistic.

Joe, that is WAY at the top end.

A used tranny from someone like Al Fitz, delivered to a shop: no more than
$450 or so (including a warranty).

3 quarts of fluid, and two axle seals: $10-$20

Tranny R&R: $300-$500 (I wouldn't pay over $400 myself).

Whole deal, less than a $1,000. BTDT.
