Yeah, but it's got to be an awfully nice SHO to be worth sinking $2500
into a trans rebuild. I mean most people would not put that kind of
money into a 100k+, 10, 12 year old car.
I agree with Ron. Find a used trans and throw it in there. You could
do that twice if you had to, for the cost of completely rebuilding one
with a quaife.

Okay, here's an SHO tranny expert saying that his used trannies want a
rebuild.
I stand by what I said. In the last year I've been through it with
Courtney over a 91 tranny that first needed a rebuild (rings, seals,
bearings) and then popped the differential. I have paid the bills and I
know this: If your SHO tranny goes south, and you are serious about
keeping your SHO on the road for a few years, then the only path that
makes financial sense (notwithstanding peace of mind) is to do a tranny
rebuild with a Quaiffe. Anything else is a gamble. Yeah, you might get
lucky. The rivets on your differential might shear. What are you
willing to pay for confidence? That's my point.

I got a few good MTX's here, but I'm not sure I'd want to sell one
without rebuilding it... mark
