I would buy ready made cables.  I know Farm & Fleet in the upper Midwest has
pre-made cable of various lengths with lugs attached for a good price.  And
the cables are heavier too.  Get the Penske brand spring clamp terminals at
Wal-Mart for a bit of weight savings and easy attachment.  These are tin
plated steel and similar to GEN 3 OEM, under $3.00 ea.
