I'd stay away from them.  A friend bought one used for a really good price, and had
nothing but trouble with the engine.  Many Windstars from that year were recalled
for engine problems...head gaskets, I think, but his wasn't, because it was used. 
He finally got rid of it on a 2001 model, but he had to take a pretty bad hit
regarding trade-in value.

Maybe the one you are looking at has already been fixed....you might be able to get
a dealer to check the serial number.
